The Leader of The Huskies: Captain Scott Lutrus Is Ready
The 2009 UConn Huskies will be defined early on by its leadership and toughness. Two characteristics that Captain linebacker Scott Lutrus brings to the table game in and game out. After red shirting in 2006, Lutrus has started and played in every game the last two seasons. This seasons success will rest heavily on the play of Lutrus and his teammates.
Lutrus has been a force in the Huskies defensive scheme for the past two seasons. In 2007 he was named to the freshman All-American team. In 2007, he recorded the third highest total with 107 tackles, 62 which were solo. The highlight of this season was against Louisville where he recorded a career high 19 tackles.

Last season, Lutrus was every bit as effective. He improved his game to another level, and challenged his teammates to do the same. That's what made UConn's defense ranked number one in the Big East. It was tough for opponents to put a lot of points on the scoreboard against them, because they didn't make a lot of mistakes.
Scott Lutrus continued his solid play last year where he led the Huskies in tackles with 106 tackles, 64 solo tackles. As the strong-side linebacker in the Huskies defensive scheme he held a lot of responsibility in calling out what the offense was doing.
He was named to the All Big East second team at the end of the year. Once again the 6'3 244 lbs linebacker kept adding more accolades to his career at Connecticut. He was named to the 2008 Big East All-Academic team. This is just more evidence that Lutrus is a leader who gets the job done on and off the field.
The beginning of this year will start another season with a lot of excitement surrounding Connecticut football. Scott Lutrus, who is from Brookfield, Connecticut is ready to take on his new role as Captain. This won't change the stats he is putting up on the field, and as long as the Huskies keep winning that's all that matters.
Lutrus has been one of the most exciting players to watch on the defensive side of the ball for UConn fans. He's got the skills and ability to be playing on Sundays in a couple of years. Keep your eyes on number 32 as the season approaches, the ball hawking defender he is, it sure won't be difficult to spot him on the field.
