NFL Draft Order 2015: Updated List, Day 3 Predictions and Rounds 1-3 Results

Steven CookMay 2, 2015

The biggest and most effective 2015 NFL draft moves and picks have already come, but teams can either make up ground or continue to distance themselves from the pack in Rounds 4-7.

Most of the first-round talent that fell past Day 1 is typically snatched up long before Saturday's final action begins, but there remains a plethora of high-potential talent to pick from. From prospects whose stock has been falling to those diamonds in the rough that we'll talk about for years to come, the final day of the draft is one not short on implications.

Day 3 is right around the corner, so let's go ahead and look at what you need to know as well as a few predictions for three of the more talked-about prospects sure to land with a franchise Saturday.

Day 3 Predictions

OT T.J. Clemmings, Pittsburgh

SOUTH BEND, IN - NOVEMBER 03: T.J. Clemmings #90 of the Pittsburgh Panthers rushes against Mike Golic, Jr. #57 of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Notre Dame Stadium on November 3, 2012 in South Bend, Indiana. Notre Dame defeated Pittsburgh 29-26 in trip

For a player who was considered a first-round pick for so long in the predraft season, it's safe to say T.J. Clemmings didn't envision waiting around until Day 3 to hear his name called.

Pittsburgh's dominant offensive tackle saw his stock start to plummet in the days leading up to the draft, when Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported teams discovered a stress fracture in Clemmings' foot that he didn't even know was there. Whether it's that, his lack of experience after just two years on the O-line or something else, teams have taken notice and steered clear in Days 1 and 2.

But his potential is undoubtedly there. In fact, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah rated him as one of the top players available before Day 2—then 67 other players were picked:

Each passing round gives teams more belief to gamble on a certain selection, and that will make Clemmings a hot commodity as Day 3 begins. But with a nagging injury and time needed to develop his game, it's as important to fall into the right situation as it is to fall to a team that needs help.

With the second pick of Day 3, the New England Patriots fit the bill in every regard. The defending champions have more than enough up front to contend for a few years, but the long-term outlook is still murky and Clemmings could be a decent piece to help begin clearing it up.

Prediction: Clemmings picked by Patriots (fourth round, pick No. 2)

FS Gerod Holliman, Louisville

The flashy positions like quarterback or running back get a bevy of airtime when rarely selected during the draft, but nobody is talking about the lack of safeties to fly off the board in this draft.

Landon Collins was considered the best bet to splash into Round 1, but he fell to the 33rd overall pick, while free safety Damarious Randall surprised at No. 30. But that was just about all of the early fireworks for safeties, as only four of the first 99 picks were from the position.

The downshift of safety value has turned Gerod Holliman from a possible first-round pick into an afterthought entering Day 3. While teammates such as DeVante Parker flew off the board long ago, the best player Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch saw in 2014 was still available:

While one of the hardest-hitting safeties you'll come by, Holliman's stock has slipped due to concerns in pass coverage and a reputation built as a raw prospect. One scout even told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Holliman was "horrible" and "needs to go back to school."

Perhaps Holliman isn't on the same level as some of the better talents in this draft, but that's why he's still available. It's hard to find players without decent-sized flaws at this point in the draft, but it's even harder to find players who resemble a first-round talent in any part of their game.

When it comes to stuffing the run and laying a smackdown on receivers coming across the middle, though, Holliman is nearly unrivaled among the draft class. With the Tennessee Titans being hapless defensively and needing to replace the effect of Bernard Pollard, Holliman could come in and do what he does best on exclusive downs.

Prediction: Holliman picked by Titans (fifth round, pick No. 1)

QB Bryce Petty, Baylor

Four of the best quarterbacks in the class are off the board entering Day 3, but one of the most interesting prospects remains ripe for the taking.

Former Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty seemed destined to crash the party on Thursday's opening night when Rapoport reported he was a late first-round possibility. That didn't happen, nor did he get picked in Rounds 2 or 3—instead being passed up by Garrett Grayson and Sean Mannion, who went to New Orleans and St. Louis, respectively.

Not only have teams once interested in Petty passed up on him, but one squad—the Saints—opted to pick another QB over him in the third round. His transitioning from the Baylor system figured to be a detractor, but not enough to overshadow his pocket ability and arm strength.

To be fair, it's tough to justify picking a QB in Rounds 1-3 unless he's an incumbent starter. As Day 3 starts, teams will be much more interested in Petty as a developmental option who can enter the league with lower expectations.

The Chicago Bears could use that sort of quarterback with mystery continuing to surround Jay Cutler's future. It gives the franchise the ability to remain invested in Cutler while quietly grooming a potential starter for the future.

Prediction: Petty picked by Bears (fourth round, pick No. 7)
