San Diego Chargers Mock Draft: Updated Day 3 Predictions
Day 3 of the draft should be a quickie for the San Diego Chargers, who own just two selections.
They entered the week without a seventh-round pick, stemming from a trade for defensive tackle Sean Lissemore two years ago, and their fourth-round pick was sacrificed on Day 1 to move up for running back Melvin Gordon. The Chargers added depth on Day 2 with an inside linebacker and corner in Rounds 2 and 3, but they failed to address some pressing needs on the offensive and defensive line.
Will they finally take a crack at filling those needs on Day 3, or will they go another direction? Check out these predictions.
Full Breakdown of Chargers' Picks After Day 2
1 of 3Perryman and Mager were added on Day 2. Here's what San Diego has left to go.
Round 5
2 of 3
Pick No. 153: Shaq Mason, G, Georgia Tech
The Chargers have just two picks remaining to address the offensive line, unless of course, they feel absolutely confident in the play of fourth-year pro Johnnie Troutman at right guard. Mason, a three-year starter at Georgia Tech, has been labeled "one of the most powerful drive blockers in the 2015 class" by NFL media analyst Lance Zierlein. Mike Mayock, too, has been high on Mason, praising his efforts at the Senior Bowl.
Georgia Tech's run-oriented offense has prepared Mason to be a road-grader at the next level but holding his own against interior-rushers will need to be at the top of his list of things to work on.
Round 6
3 of 3
Pick No. 192: Tony Washington, OLB, Oregon
The Chargers close the book on the 2015 draft with a pass-rusher. Washington was one of Oregon's most productive defensive players last season, tallying 60 tackles (11.5 for loss) and six sacks. He also forced three fumbles. Washington is an upside player that will need fine-tuning at the next level, but he showed enough production in college to garner an opportunity at the very least.
Defensive line is a possibility as well, but if Telesco has shown us anything in this draft, he might just take the best player available.
