DeVier Posey to Jets: Trade Details and Twitter Reaction from 2015 NFL Draft
The New York Jets continue to stockpile wide receivers this offseason. They already added Brandon Marshall and drafted Devin Smith in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft.
On Friday, the Jets continued their work behind the scenes, acquiring DeVier Posey from the Houston Texans. The team announced the full details of the deal, which also involves moving various draft picks:
Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday noted that it was ironic Posey praised the Jets' decision to draft Smith—a fellow Ohio State Buckeye—and will now be joining Smith in New York:
Posey spent his first three years in the league in Houston. He caught 22 passes for 272 yards with the Texans. While those numbers don't sound overly impressive, Posey lost nearly all of 2014 after tearing his Achilles tendon in a playoff loss to the New England Patriots in January 2013.
Jason McIntyre of The Big Lead believes the 25-year-old helps turn wideout into a position of strength for New York:
Geno Smith obviously remains a major question mark. As much as the Jets have done to improve the passing game, so much still rests on Smith's arm. If he struggles, it won't matter to whom he's throwing passes.
But New York's hands were tied a bit between the team's draft position and the dearth of talented quarterbacks this offseason. The team has done as much as it reasonably can to help Smith succeed, and trading for Posey is a part of that plan.
