Dorial Green-Beckham to Tennessee Titans: Full Draft-Pick Breakdown

Daniel BarnesMay 1, 2015

I will not mince my words: I do not like this pick—at all.

I'm not inherently against boom-or-bust selections, but for the Tennessee Titans, it's unwise. With holes at a lot of positions, the Titans can't afford to make such a risky move.

Dorial Green-Beckham was kicked off the Missouri Tigers football team when he allegedly forced his way into a woman's apartment and pushed her down a flight of stairs, per Edward Aschoff of ESPN.com.

Before that, Green-Beckham (also known as DGB) was arrested after a traffic stop, per the News-Leader (via USA Today). The vehicle he was in allegedly contained a pound of marijuana.

That said, it's not all bad with Green-Beckham. He was the No. 1 overall recruit out of high school, according to 247Sports, and showed why on the field immediately.

From a pure talent perspective, Green-Beckham is a top-10 player in this year's draft. He has the size of a tight end with the route running and speed of an NFL-ready receiver.

He didn't blow up the combine, but for a guy who's 6'5" and 237 pounds, a 4.49-second 40-yard dash is insane.

With Green-Beckham's talent, he could be the Titans' top receiver by Week 1. But with his off-the-field problems, he could be a public-relations nightmare mash-up of Josh Gordon and Ray Rice.

With Jake Fisher, Eric Kendricks and Jaelen Strong all on the boardand all playing positions of needthe Titans could have grabbed a great player and not taken such an enormous risk.

By trading down, the Titans added fourth- and seventh-rounders, so the risk is mitigated, but Green-Beckham's history would seem to make him more likely to bust than boom—far, far more likely.

But who knows? The Titans have clearly done their investigating before making this pick. They're aware of the risks that come with Green-Beckham, and despite those risksand despite the other players availablethey determined he was worth it.

Of course, with the Titans' horrible recent history of evaluating prospects, one has to wonder if there's reason to have faith in their judgment, especially with this many red flags waving in their faces.
