Dorial Green-Beckham to Titans: Trade Details, Reaction in 2015 NFL Draft
Having already addressed the quarterback position in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans strengthened their passing game further in the second round. They selected Dorial Green-Beckham with the 40th overall pick.
Few players in this year's draft are more polarizing than Green-Beckham. He carries with him a litany of off-field concerns after the Missouri Tigers dismissed him from the program in April 2014 after multiple marijuana-related arrests and an alleged domestic disturbance.
Strictly from an on-field perspective, it's difficult to find much argument with the selection. NFL.com's Chris Wesseling feels that between Mariota, Green-Beckham and the players already residing in Nashville, the Titans are putting together a talented core of young offensive stars:
Mike Mayock of NFL Network compared Green-Beckham to a young Randy Moss. Terry McCormick of Titans Insider said Green-Beckham likens himself to Calvin Johnson or Dez Bryant and that he's looking forward to a long relationship with Mariota.
Tennessee originally had the first pick in the second round but traded the selection to the New York Giants. Around the NFL has the details of that deal:
The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added that the Titans still managed to get their guy at No. 40:
Green-Beckham obviously comes with a ton of risk beyond his past troubles at Missouri. He is still a bit raw as a receiver and doesn't come with a varied route tree. He'll also likely struggle initially against press coverage.
Should DGB fulfill his potential, though, the Titans could have an All-Pro wideout for years to come.
