2015 NFL Draft Picks: Full List of Results and Grades Following Rounds 2 and 3

Steven CookMay 1, 2015

The first 32 picks of the 2015 NFL draft were off the board prior to the start of Friday's action, but the second and third rounds were still jam-packed with players sure to flood rosters with early impact and long-term potential.

A number of first-round hopefuls endured a tough night after not hearing their name called in Round 1, but things turned brighter for most, with teams snatching them up in Rounds 2 and 3. Tons of skill-position talent and a plethora of huge interior prospects found NFL homes on Friday night as 64 picks flew off the board.

Most importantly, two more rounds of picks allow us to begin piecing teams' draft classes together to see how each has been able to address their biggest needs. With that in mind, let's take a look at all of the Day 2 results, and give each pick a letter grade based on overall value and team fit.

Notable Picks from Rounds 2 and 3

37. New York Jets: WR Devin Smith, Ohio State (A-)

The New York Jets did well to bolster one of the league's best defensive lines with stud tackle Leonard Williams at No. 6 overall, but passing up on selecting a game-changing wideout proved a tough pill to swallow. Therefore, they came out and got their best guy available on Day 2.

Ohio State's Devin Smith was one of six Green Room entrants waiting around until Friday. It was a short wait, as the Jets grabbed him 37th overall. Smith's deep-ball ability, breakaway speed and elusiveness made him a potential Round 1 selection.

The Jets went with the best player available at a position of need, but Smith's arrival will immediately shore up more than one weakness for New York. That's why Fox Sports' Bruce Heldman liked what the Jets did through two selections:

The Jets nabbed another former Ohio State playmaker on Friday night, grabbing 2012 third-round pick DeVier Posey from the Houston Texans in a trade down later on in Round 3, per ESPN's Field Yates.

Having Geno Smith at the helm for another year is questionable, but at least he has weapons to throw to from an arsenal that already contained Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley and offseason acquisition Brandon Marshall.

42. Atlanta Falcons: CB Jalen Collins, LSU (A)

If new head coach Dan Quinn's quest is to rebuild his Atlanta Falcons defense to resemble that of the Seattle Seahawks he just left, he's off to a flying start. Thursday saw the arrival of outside linebacker Vic Beasley with the No. 8 overall pick, and it started to come full circle with Jalen Collins' selection.

The LSU cornerback is a first-round talent, and whether it was a foot injury or failed drug tests during school that allowed him to slip, the Falcons weren't about to pass up a corner who perfectly fits Quinn's system. Yates demonstrated how Collins will fit into Atlanta's current core of cornerbacks, which suddenly doesn't look so bad after all:

Assuming the foot isn't a problem, Collins is the type of prospect who promises to have an impact off the bat. Unlike average-sized corners, Collins will be able to fight off the snap with most NFL wideouts and has covered some of the SEC's best receivers like a blanket throughout his career.

The Falcons needed to land two first-round-caliber prospects on defense in this draft to help inject some force into a lifeless corps, and that's just what they did in a two-day coup.

54. Detroit Lions: RB Ameer Abdullah, Nebraska (A-)

The two best running backs flew off the board long before their 24th pick Thursday, and another got picked before they went on the clock Friday, but the Detroit Lions wouldn't be denied grabbing their next Reggie Bush.

After shredding Big Ten defenses for three seasons, Ameer Abdullah opted to stay at Nebraska for his senior season. But despite a heavy workload in college, Abdullah doesn't have much tread on the tires at just 21 years old.

Abdullah is a do-it-all back with high character, but that's only the beginning. As far as his elusiveness, he ranks fourth among all running backs in the draft, per Pro Football Focus—which is exactly where he was selected:

He's a small back at 5'9" and could struggle in pass protection, but he packs a punch to run between the tackles and will be a nuisance as a change-of-pace back. Frankly, that's what Detroit needs alongside bruising power-runner Joique Bell.

75. New Orleans Saints: QB Garrett Grayson, Colorado State (B+)

After quarterbacks were selected with the first and second picks of the entire draft, a drought ensued; 73 picks went by before another gunslinger was called. But that's nothing compared to the amount of time the New Orleans Saints have gone without selecting a quarterback early in the draft.

Quarterback Garrett Grayson out of Colorado State got pegged as the eventual replacement for Drew Brees in the Big Easy on Friday night, which snaps a 44-year drought dating back to Archie Manning as Steve Schneider of WAFB (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) noted:

Brees figures to have a good few years left of his Hall of Fame-caliber career, but it's hard to ignore that he began to show some regression in 2014. Trading Jimmy Graham and beefing up the offensive line indicates something of a shift in offensive style, but with Brees at 36 years of age, it was key to target a quarterback of the future.

Grayson certainly has the intangibles to become that guy, with a huge arm and poise in the pocket that is so hard to come by in college quarterbacks. Just like every quarterback not named Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota, he needs a year or two—or three—of development before hitting the field, but the potential is there.
