NFL Draft Results 2015: Round 1 Grades and Prospect Predictions for Day 2
The 2015 NFL draft class was always more about depth than top-end talent. That's even more clear now that the dust has settled following Round 1 on Thursday. A number of rock-solid prospects are still on the board for Day 2 on Friday night.
Perhaps the most pressing question is whether that remaining talent will spark a flurry of activity. The opening round wasn't nearly as active in terms of trades as projected. Maybe now, as the pool of impact players begins to dwindle, the action will pick up.
First, let's review the first round by handing out grades to each of the teams that made at least one selection. That's followed by a complete list of draft results and some predictions for where the top players still on the board could land.

Predictions for Top Day 2 Prospects
Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska
Gregory was a fringe top-five prospect before failing a drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine. His stock has steadily faded since that point, which isn't a shock given the poor judgment that decision illustrated. That said, seeing a player with his talent available in Round 2 is rare.
The Nebraska product is a promising edge-rusher who racked up 17.5 sacks in two college seasons. He's displayed terrific short-area quickness to go along with reliable tackling ability. Josina Anderson of ESPN highlighted the risk-reward scenario in play:
It's a situation that could set up perfectly for the Oakland Raiders if they want to take a chance on him. They opted to take Amari Cooper to upgrade the offense in Round 1. By doing so, they passed on a major opportunity to help the front seven with Leonard Williams.
If Oakland grabs Gregory and he's able to leave any off-field concerns in the past, it would become a major coup for the team's defense. It would almost be like having two top-10 selections but not having to give up any future assets to trade back up into Round 1.
Prediction: Raiders at No. 35
Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
Wide receiver is one of the deepest positions in the class. As a result, a couple of highly talented prospects were always going to slide into Round 2. Unfortunately for Strong, along with Dorial Green-Beckham and Devin Smith, things didn't fall in his favor.
Strong is the most complete receiver of that trio. He's got outstanding hands and a powerful frame that allows him to win a lot of jump-ball situations. What he lacks in downfield ability is made up for by the fact that he should develop into a key weapon on third down and in the red zone.
One uncertainty is where he'll line up on offense. He sports the necessary tools to work against corners on the outside but enjoyed collegiate success in the slot. Pro Football Focus passed along a stat to showcase that:
The Jacksonville Jaguars' group of receivers features a couple of promising pieces like Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee, but the team lacks a go-to target. Strong is capable of developing into a player who fills that role within a season or two.
Prediction: Jaguars at No. 36
Landon Collins, SS, Alabama
Collins figured to become a hotter commodity when the draft process began. He seemed like the clear-cut top safety in a class without much depth at the position. Over time, however, Damarious Randall made up ground on him and came off the board late in Round 1.
That has caused the Alabama star to slide into the second round. After being projected to go in the teens, it's no surprise he's disappointed about the results. He expressed that in a message on social media Friday afternoon:
A little extra motivation certainly can't hurt. The fact of the matter is he's still a terrific run-stopping safety capable of making an immediate impact on the early downs. He'll need some work in coverage before his new team feels completely confident with him in obvious passing situations, though.
The New York Giants are a team with a glaring need at the back end on defense. If Collins remains on the board with the 40th pick, it's hard to imagine them passing on him. It would be a great value selection at that stage.
Prediction: Giants at No. 40
