Napoli vs. AC Milan: Team News, Predicted Lineups, Live Stream & TV Info

Anthony LopopoloMay 1, 2015

Two disappointing losses from their midweek fixtures left AC Milan and Napoli in different positions.

For the Rossoneri, all that's left is their dignity. They have won just once in five matches, the threat of the sack looming over coach Filippo Inzaghi like a guillotine for even longer. They are a mid-table club all but mathematically out of reach of the Europa League, and they are about to undergo massive changes at boardroom and pitch level.

For the Partenopei, it's about securing a route back to the Champions League. They are five points behind third-placed Roma with just as many games remaining in the season, but they are also set to face Dnipro next week in the Europa League. If they win the competition, they could claim a spot in Europe's top tier.

Napoli have the luxury of finding different ways to achieve a third straight season in the Champions League, while seven-time winners Milan are facing a second straight year without it. In the primetime Serie A fixture on Sunday, the two clubs on polar opposites could come together and give us a good match.

Predicted Lineups

Jeremy Menez is the biggest omission from the lineup. The 16-goal scorer is set to serve a four-game suspension for insulting the referee, per Football Italia. That means a potential attacking trident of Keisuke Honda, Giampaolo Pazzini and Suso could come together.

Stephan El Shaarawy is still not ready for match time—even though he has re-joined training—and Mattia Destro is starting to take a back seat after failing to impress in the early months of his loan spell.

The midfield is largely the same, with Nigel De Jong, Giacomo Bonaventura and Andrea Poli expected to reunite. Marco van Ginkel's progress has stalled in recent games, with La Gazzetta dello Sport mocking his last performance against Genoa.

The defence never really has a set core, and it will likely change again. Mattia De Sciglio seems to be back in the fold, but he could feature on the right side instead of the left, where Luca Antonelli has solidified his spot. In the middle could be any combination of Gabriel Paletta, Philippe Mexes, Alex or Adil Rami. But Diego Lopez is the man in goal, and he will likely make some game-changing saves, as he usually does.

The starting XI on the other side is a bit more interesting. With an eye on their Europa League encounter on Thursday, Napoli coach Rafa Benitez could opt to rest some players.

But in all likelihood, Gonzalo Higuain will play. He has already logged 37 appearances for his club, showing just how much Benitez likes to use him.

Duvan Zapata, however, is always a good option in relief. He has eight goals despite only making 10 starts in all competitions.

Jose Callejon, Marek Hamsik and Lorenzo Insigne could all play as well, but Manolo Gabbiadini and Dries Mertens could slot in just as well. Napoli are healthy at the right time.

A midfield partnership between Walter Gargano and Gohkan Inler could also work, keeping a 4-2-3-1 shape.

The defence remains intact from the midweek game, with Christian Maggio, Miguel Britos, Kalidou Koulibaly and Faouzi Ghoulam making up the back four. In goal, Mariano Andujar is set to make his 14th straight start since replacing Rafael.

Player to watch

The return of Insigne has rejuvenated Jose Callejon in the Napoli ranks. The 28-year-old Spaniard had gone months without scoring and then boom: three goals in six games. He is bookending this season with great form, having topped the Serie A scoring charts earlier in the season.

Callejon's pace, coupled with an interchanging attack, could prove too tough for Milan to match, even though the Rossoneri's season peaked with a win over Napoli back in December.

This time, though, Milan are the visitors, arriving in the south with a morally depleted squad.

Milan: 5/1

Napoli: 10/21

Draw: 13/4

Prediction: Napoli 3 Milan 1
