NFL Draft Rumors: Latest Buzz and Speculation Before 2015 Rounds 2 and 3
The first round of the 2015 NFL draft was fairly tame in terms of trades despite a ton of buzz surrounding potential deals, but with Rounds 2 and 3 set to take place on Friday, there will be plenty more opportunities for moves to be made.
Highly touted players such as Nebraska linebacker Randy Gregory, Alabama safety Landon Collins and LSU offensive lineman La'el Collins have fallen to the second day of the draft despite once being considered surefire first-rounders. Since there is so much talent left on the board, teams might be inclined to move up rather than stand pat.
As the second and third rounds of the draft approach, here is a look at the latest rumors surrounding possible trades and potential fits between certain teams and prospects.
Saints Interested in Bryce Petty?
The New Orleans Saints have one of the NFL's best quarterbacks in Drew Brees, but that may not stop them from going after a developmental passer in the form of Baylor's Bryce Petty.
New Orleans selected Stanford offensive tackle Andrus Peat and Clemson linebacker Stephone Anthony with its pair of first-round selections on Thursday. After addressing two pressing needs, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that the Saints could opt for a luxury pick on Day 2.
Their second-round pick is the 44th overall selection, while they also have the 75th and 78th picks in the third round at their disposal. If the predraft buzz is accurate, then one of those draft choices could very well be ticketed for Petty.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it has long been rumored that New Orleans is in the market for a successor to Brees:
There was even some talk that the Saints were looking to take Petty at No. 31 in the first round. In fact, Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel mocked Petty to that spot and declared that New Orleans "regard[s] him as the best pure passer in the draft."
It is no secret that the Saints have taken a long, hard look at Petty, and head coach Sean Payton indicated that he is a fan of the former Baylor standout, per Larry Holder of NOLA.com:
Also, while general manager Mickey Loomis didn't commit to taking a quarterback early in the draft, he certainly didn't shoot the idea down either, according to ESPN.com's Mike Triplett:
"I think you're always looking to get a young quarterback in the program. We've got one in Ryan Griffin that we like. And if an opportunity presents itself, hey, we may take another one here. But I don't see the end for Drew Brees on the short-term horizon. At least I certainly hope not. But it does take time for these quarterbacks to develop. And we're conscious of that. ... We evaluate the quarterbacks. And obviously if an opportunity presents itself to take one at the right time, we're not afraid to do that.
"
If the Saints are going to land Petty specifically, then the 44th pick may be the ideal spot to do it. There is a solid chance that he will still be available at that juncture, but it is tough to envision him sliding all the way down to No. 75.
New Orleans has some other needs it could stand to address such as pass-rusher or wide receiver, but if its interest in Petty is real, then he figures to be the pick at No. 44.
Rams RB Zac Stacy Potentially on the Block

After two years of no running backs being selected in the first round of the NFL draft, the St. Louis Rams ended that drought Thursday, when they took Georgia's Todd Gurley at No. 10.
Gurley is a supremely talented rusher with the ability to be a stud at the next level, so there is understandably a great deal of excitement surrounding his arrival in St. Louis. One person who doesn't share that point of view, though, is incumbent Rams running back Zac Stacy.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 24-year-old back is hoping to be dealt, and the Rams may grant him his wish:
After rushing for 973 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie season in 2013, Stacy took a big step backward last year. He totaled just 293 yards and one score on the ground, and he was ultimately surpassed by Tre Mason on the depth chart.
Despite the fact that Gurley is still recovering from a torn ACL, NFL.com's Michael Fabiano expects him to be in the St. Louis starting backfield from Jump Street:
That means Stacy would enter the season no better than No. 3 in the pecking order, and that certainly isn't ideal for a player who nearly topped 1,000 yards just two years ago.
Stacy figures to be a hot topic of conversation over the final two days of the draft, although it is highly unlikely that the Rams will land a second- of third-round pick in exchange for him, especially since he was only a fifth-rounder.
It is more likely that a move will happen on Day 3 with later picks coming into play, but talks will undoubtedly start Friday, which could lay the groundwork for an eventual trade.
Texans In on Dorial Green-Beckham?
In terms of pure talent, few prospects in the 2015 NFL draft class can measure up to former Missouri and Oklahoma wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham. Even so, he is still there for the taking after one round.
DGB was dismissed from Mizzou's football team due to off-field issues, and he sat out the entire 2014 campaign after transferring to Oklahoma. With character concerns and a year away from football working against him, teams shied away, although they otherwise wouldn't have in the past, according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports:
Among the teams that reportedly showed interest in Green-Beckham leading up to the draft, per Jayson Braddock of ESPN 97.5, were the Houston Texans:
While Houston opted to take Wake Forest cornerback Kevin Johnson at No. 16, a player the team apparently likes is still on the board entering Day 2. If the Texans want to nab DGB, though, they may have some work ahead of them.
The Texans don't pick again until No. 51, which means they'll really have to sweat it out if they decide to stand pat. Expecting Green-Beckham to fall that far may be a bit of a stretch, which means Houston's best bet is to trade up in the second round.
Even that doesn't guarantee anything since DGB could very well be among the top selections in the round. That means Houston will need some luck on its side when it comes to landing one of the most explosive receivers in the draft.
The Texans have a stud receiver in DeAndre Hopkins along with a nice complementary piece in Cecil Shorts, but they could certainly use another playmaker after parting ways with Andre Johnson. Green-Beckham seems like a perfect fit, and Houston would be wise to do whatever it can within reason to land him.
