Dorial Green-Beckham to Titans: Tennessee Selects WR in 2015 NFL Draft

Tyler ConwayApr 30, 2015

Viewed by some as the most physically gifted wide receiver in the 2015 NFL draft, Dorial Green-Beckham's off-field problems left him on the board heading into Day 2, but it didn't take long for that to change as the Tennessee Titans opted to give Marcus Mariota a weapon with the 40th overall pick.

The NFL announced the Titans selection of Green-Beckham with the 40th overall pick. Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports gave his take on the pick:

From a talent perspective, there's no question Green-Beckham was deserving of a first-round pick. Measuring in at 6'5" and 237 pounds, Green-Beckham ran the 40 in 4.49 seconds and posted a decent 33.5-inch vertical leap at the combine. The only reasonable physical comparison currently in the NFL is Calvin Johnson, a physical marvel who's helped turn Matthew Stafford into a Pro Bowler.

"They don't make receivers in the NFL that look like that other than Calvin Johnson," Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball told Lars Anderson of Bleacher Report. "I've never seen or met Dorial before, but just by looking at him you can tell that this kid is going to be a matchup nightmare. Wow. He's about to get paid. Just...wow."

Green-Beckham has that type of jaw-dropping potential. In his two years at Missouri, he emerged as a scintillating red-zone threat who could fight through contact and make plays down the field.

Of course, it speaks to NFL teams' level of concern about Green-Beckham's past that he didn't come off the board Thursday. The aforementioned Anderson profile delves into the issues that got him dismissed from Missouri and left him without a football home for the last year.

Maybe, like Randy Moss and Dez Bryant before him, there's a redemptive chapter to be written about Green-Beckham.
