Nike Air Jordan 5 Retro 'Hornets' Release-Date Schedule, Pics and Retail Price
On Saturday, May 2, it's going down. The day we've all been waiting for will have finally arrived.
No, I'm not talking about Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao. I'm talking about the release of the Air Jordan 5 Retro "Hornets" aka the "Midnight Navy."
The 5 is one of the most beloved designs in the Jordan Brand catalog. While basic, it has just enough of an edge to stand out.
The Charlotte Hornets colors should endear the shoe to the team's fanbase—as if it needed that extra piece of appeal.

SneakerNews.com gives a nice look at the inside of the sneaker.
Originally released in 1990, the Air Jordan 5 was designed by Tinker Hatfield. The inspiration for the design was the World War II Mustang fighter plane, per NiceKicks.com.

The shark-teeth shapes on the sides of the shoe are an ode to the iconic American fighter planes. You can see where Hatfield drew the inspiration from near the propellor of the plane.
The Air Jordan 5 was also the first version of the shoe to feature a clear sole, which has become a popular characteristic of other sneakers. The other most prominent feature of the shoe is the reflective tongue. That part of it really pops on the darker designs.

Jordan had a heck of a season in these puppies as well.
He set his single-game career high wearing these shoes when he scored 69 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 28.
You probably won't become the best basketball player who ever lived if you rock these, but you'll be sharp nonetheless.
