"Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner was arrested Wednesday on allegations of assault, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Griner, 24, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct, according to booking information.
"
On April 28, TMZ reported Griner has pleaded guilty and entered counseling, according to her attorney, David Michael Cantor:
"Cantor tells us Griner agreed to plead guilty to disorderly conduct -- and if she keeps her nose clean while she completes a 26 week domestic violence counseling program, all charges will be dropped ... including the original assault charge.
Cantor says, "The day after her arrest, prior to the Court's requirements being imposed, Brittney voluntarily began counseling and will continue to attend in addition to the required court's counseling."
"
TMZ provided audio of the 911 phone call from Johnson's sister on the night of the arrests.
ABC 15 Sports in Phoenix passed along the mugshots:
The Associated Press shared additional details on the situation.
"Goodyear police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis says officers arrested Griner and Johnson after a fight between the couple turned physical," the AP reported. "Kutis said no weapons were involved and that neither required hospital care for their minor injuries."
TMZ reported more details on the pair's dispute:
"Cops say Brittney admitted to throwing a dog bowl at the wall -- and then the two began fighting.
Glory's sister eventually called police because people "couldn't get them pulled apart" and she didn't want anyone to get hurt.
When cops arrived, officers say Brittney had several cuts -- and a bite wound. Glory was bleeding from the lip.
"
The Tulsa Shock issued a statement:
Griner has played 61 games over the past two seasons for the Mercury after being the first overall pick in the 2013 WNBA draft. She's averaged 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game while shooting 56.9 percent from the field.
The 24-year-old Baylor product is one of the premier post players in women's basketball. A two-time WNBA All-Star, she's also represented the United States at the international level. She was on the U.S. FIBA World Championship squad last year that won a gold medal.
