Floyd Mayweather Wins If...

He does what he always does. He keeps Pacquiao at arm's length for much of the fight, not allowing the dangerous fighter to crowd him or take away his mobility. He lets Pac-Man force the issue early, wear himself out and then goes in and picks him apart with clinical jabs and hooks. Mayweather has the advantage in quickness and agility, and utilizing that will be a key to this fight.

If Pacquiao is going to win, he'll likely either have to knock Mayweather to the mat once or twice or knock him out. Pac-Man doesn't have the power he once possessed, but he can still floor Money with one clean shot. Mayweather is the best defensive boxer in the world (and, arguably, ever), so his approach will likely be to dip and dart away from Pac-Man's punches and hit him with his vaunted counterattack.

But if he let's his guard down once, if he dekes in the wrong direction or gives Pac-Man an opening and gets caught, he'll be in trouble. Pac-Man is a better fighter than he's faced in many, many years. It's unlikely that Mayweather would ever underestimate him, but he can't fight comfortably, either. He'll need to be at his absolute sharpest and not allow Pac-Man to continuously get in close and inside of his guard, like Mayweather allowed against Miguel Cotto.

If hubris wins the day and Mayweather tries to brawl, the real winner will be Pacquiao. Mayweather will win this fight, but it won't be easy.

Manny Pacquiao Wins If...

He turns this fight into a brawl. Duh.

It's more complex than that, of course. Mayweather has hung in brawls before, or at least Mayweather's versions of brawls, which ultimately just end with Mayweather closing the fight by technically demoralizing and dissecting his opponent.

Mayweather doesn't fight; he boxes. It's not a battle; it's a science. Pacquiao has to make him fight. And he can do it.

Pacquiao can crowd Mayweather. He has the endurance to keep coming after him round after round. He has the power to make Mayweather really feel each blow, to be rattled by each blow. He comes from unique angles, difficult angles to defend. He will be unlike what Mayweather has seen before.

But he'll have to be perfect. Pacquiao at his best against Mayweather at his best will always favor Mayweather, at least at this point of both men's careers. Pacquiao can never relent, he can never lose focus, he can never allow Mayweather to keep his distance and pick him apart. Pacquiao must fight the best match of his life.

He can win. He won't, but he can.
