Carlos Gomez Injury: Updates on Brewers OF's Face and Return

Timothy RappMay 17, 2015

Carlos Gomez is having a rough season for the Milwaukee Brewers. After going on the disabled list in April, Gomez once again was forced out of action after he left Sunday's game against the New York Mets with a facial contusion. However, it wasn't enough to keep him out of the lineup the next day.

Gomez Back in the Lineup

Monday, May 18

MLB Lineups confirmed that Gomez is back in the lineup as the team takes on the Detroit Tigers.

Gomez's return comes on the heels of leaving Sunday's game with what the Brewers announced as a facial contusion. They also confirmed he did not suffer a concussion.

Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel noted that Gomez "was all smiles in the clubhouse after the game. Big earflap-shaped welt on his left cheek."

MLB.com Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy captured a photo of Gomez:

Gomez remains one of Milwaukee's most important players after hitting .284 in each of the past two seasons, with at least 23 homers, 73 RBI and 34 stolen bases in those campaigns. He won a Gold Glove in 2013 and has been an All-Star in each of the past two seasons.

While he has hit at different spots in the lineup over the past two years, including at cleanup at points last year, he's at his best in the leadoff role, where his combination of speed and power makes him difficult for opposing pitchers to handle.

His injury struggles have been a disappointment for both him and the Brewers. With Ryan Braun's regression, no player is more important for the Brewers than Gomez.
