Why Roger Federer Will Win The US Open
The US Open is less than a week away and everyone wants to know (and not just for US Open betting purposes): who will stop Roger Federer at Flushing Meadows?
The answer: no one.
To be quite fair, there are just a few guys that are capable of beating Federer. That list includes Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Andy Roddick and maybe Novak Djokovic. Some people might throw Juan Martin Del Potro in there but he's not quite ready.
If you're a betting man, you wouldn't put any of your hard-earned money on Djokovic. Not only is he wildly inconsistent, he also just got handled by Federer at the Cincinnati Masters.
Roddick is an option, but the question with his is: was Wimbledon a fluke? When you consider that he's faded in each successive tournament since Wimbledon, the answer is probably yes. And in front of his home crowd with the added pressure, he'll probably won't be in the finals.
Murray is an option and the second favorite on the event but when you consider how Federer pimp-slapped him in the US Open finals last year (Murray won just nine games), then you would have a tough time picking Murray. Federer also ended Murray's four-match winning streak when they met in Cincy.
Rafael Nadal is the best option, since he's the only player to thwart Federer virtually at all over the last six years, but he has knee problems. Hard court is the least forgiving surface for knee issues and considering Nadal hasn't been in the US Open final when healthy, he won't do it on a bum knee.
Federer has to be the clear choice. Now that the pressure of that elusive French Open and Pete Sampras' record are no longer a burden, look for him to win his sixth consecutive US Open.
