Finn Balor, Hugo Knox and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertApr 8, 2015

Finn Balor's rapid progress at WWE NXT continues, while an injury has slowed Hugo Knox's journey.

Balor continues to be asked to tour with the main roster, leaving one to assume that his call-up isn't far away. Knox, on the other hand, has much further to go before reaching that point. And getting there is going to take longer now that he's on the shelf.

In other WWE developmental news, some rookies got some ring time, and a Ring of Honor wrestler is reportedly on the company's radar.

In addition, by the time Knox is ready to compete again, he may be working with some new mentors. NXT is possibly welcoming two names from the past as trainers.

Veterans May Soon Be Helping out at NXT

1 of 5

NXT prospects could soon be working with a former world champion and one of the most memorable characters of the Attitude Era.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson reports, "There's talk of Vader moving to Florida and if so, he would get a little more involved with helping NXT talents. There's also talk of Goldust helping more with NXT going forward."

Goldust has previously worked with WWE in a backstage producer role. He's also taught wrestling seminars independently. So helping to mold young talents is nothing new to him.

Having Vader on the team would be an asset as well. After a long, successful career, he surely has a wealth of knowledge to share about working as a big man. Bull Dempsey and Baron Corbin could both use some tutelage in the art of pounding a foe with forearms.

Hugo Knox Undergoes Surgery

2 of 5

Don't count on Hugo Knox making his TV debut anytime soon. The former goalkeeper is on the mend.

Knox tweeted that he ruptured a bicep tendon, showing off the brace he's now wearing on his arm. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons website notes that this kind of injury takes two to three months to fully heal.

He was showing promise at live events, so it has to be frustrating to now have to stay out of the ring. WWE can still have him work on his promos, though. This would be a good time to try him out in a manager role to allow him to improve his mic skills.

WWE Reportedly Interested in Signing Ring of Honor Star

3 of 5

Ring of Honor has long been a source for future WWE stars. One more may be headed from that promotion to WWE.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc), WWE officials are interested in signing ACH when his current ROH contract is up.

ACH is a highly athletic performer. He's small, though, just 5'9" and slightly under 200 pounds. On the plus side, he's fun to watch, only 27 years old and has good presence in the ring. WWE is smart to seek out a guy like this even if he doesn't fit the classic WWE mold.

So many of the world's best wrestlers are not as big as the men the company would normally pursue.

Several NXT Rookies Appear in Battle Royal

4 of 5

A recent NXT event welcomed new blood.

On the house show in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday April 4, a Battle Royal featured several unfamiliar names. As noted on CageMatch.net, Sunny Dhinsa, Josh Woods, Noah Kekoa and Sabby Piscitelli competed in the bout.

This was their first taste of action at a live event.

Kekoa is the man to watch among that group to battle in Orlando. He's a natural athlete with good size who showed great promise working for World Xtreme Wrestling.

With Neville and Kalisto now on the main roster and Finn Balor possibly following them soon, there are several spots that need to be filled. Kekoa and former amateur Dhinsa will be among those vying for them.

Finn Balor Receiving More Opportunities, Sami Zayn Returns

5 of 5

WWE keeps treating Finn Balor the way it did Neville and Rusev before him. That is, by having him compete alongside the main roster.

On PWInsider, Mike Johnson writes, "Finn Balor and JoJo are on the road for WWE this week. Balor is going to the European tour." And as noted on ProWrestling.net, Balor worked the dark match before Tuesday's SmackDown taping.

Those opportunities feel like precursors to his call-up. WWE must think highly of him. Not every NXT prospect is being invited to Europe.

Balor will only be at NXT for a while longer if this trajectory continues. He may even beat Sami Zayn to WWE proper.

Zayn fans had reason to cheer as he began wrestling again after nursing a shoulder injury for weeks. Per ProFightDB.com, Zayn returned to the ring, taking on Baron Corbin on April 2 and defeating Scott Dawson two days later.
