5 Things You Need to Know About Bayern Munich's Teenage Signing Toni Trograncic

Stefan BienkowskiApr 8, 2015

Bayern Munich may currently be the club on every football fan's mind at the moment as one of Europe's most powerful teams, yet they have wasted little time preparing for the years to come by promoting young prodigy Toni Trograncic to first team training of late.

As was widely reported during the international break—Goal.com, for instance, on April 2—Pep Guardiola invited the 15-year-old up to his training sessions in light of his weakened squad and in the process propelled the Munich-born star into the international limelight.

Here's five things you'll need to know about the next Bayern sensation.

He Rejected Bayern Once Before

Although very little is known about the 15-year-old starlet, we do now know that he actually rejected the Bavarian giants earlier in his career.

As his father stated in the interview with Goal on April 2, the midfielder initially played for Rosenheim—a feeder club of sorts for Bayern in Austria—but then chose to play for Red Bull Salzburg after fellow young prodigy Ante Coric convinced him it was the right decision.

Fortunately for the German club, a number of factors changed at the Austrian club and in the end Trograncic has now been invited back to Munich to play for the club.

He May One Day Play for Germany

Although Trograncic was born in Munich he is technically of Croatian origin, meaning he may one day play for either Croatia or indeed Germany.

The youngster has suggested that the land of his parents would be his preference, having played for the Croatian U14s on a number of occasions, but he would still be eligible for Germany until he's made a competitive senior cap for the Croatian team.

Such ambiguity has led to speculation of an effort from the German FA to snap him up. As Marca reported on March 28, the nation of his birth have invited him to play in some of their development programmes with the hope of swooning him into changing his mind.

He's a Playmaker in the Making

Although the 15-year-old is still so young and raw, making it impossible to predict where he may one day play, his preference so far has been to either play as an attacking midfielder across the front free or indeed up front as a striker.

Trograncic is exceptionally talented with both feet and enjoys all the skills and talents that would make him an accomplished playmaker in any midfield.

Watch out, Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara, there's a new playmaking prodigy among the ranks.

But He Probably Won't End Up There

Although we've just discussed the probability of Trograncic ending up as a playmaker or central midfielder at Bayern, there's a very strong chance that Guardiola will work his magic on the youngster and reinvent him as something else entirely.

The former Barcelona manager has a long history of moving players around, and with the technical ability Trograncic clearly shows, he could end up playing in any corner of Guardiola's teams in the future.

An attacking midfielder at the moment, but don't be surprised if he ended up in defence or indeed up front.

He'll Undoubtedly Go out on Loan

Philipp Lahm, Toni Kroos, Emre Can, David Alaba and Pierre-Emerick Hojbjerg; what do all of these players have in common despite being immensely talented? They all went on loan before making their way into the club's first team.

In a club that has always enjoyed such a rich supply of talent in the first team, Bayern have made themselves incredibly efficient at promoting talent by loaning them out to some of the Bundesliga's best sides.

As such, should Trograncic continue his progress in Munich a move to Hoffenheim, Stuttgart or any other team in the top division is all but inevitable.
