WWE Extreme Rules 2015: Most Intriguing Storylines to Track on Road to PPV

Donald WoodApr 6, 2015

After one of the wildest WrestleMania events in recent memory, the WWE is moving on to April’s pay-per-view, Extreme Rules 2015.

The WWE Universe is excited to see how the company follows up such an exciting showcase, and many storylines should have fans intrigued as Extreme Rules approaches.

Here are the top angles to watch at April's PPV.

The WWE World Heavyweight Championship Scene

Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and the excitement surrounding how the company will book the title scene at Extreme Rules is intriguing.

With Brock Lesnar suspended indefinitely, Randy Orton earning a clean win over Rollins at WrestleMania and Roman Reigns almost walking out of the main event with the championship, the title scene is congested.

The result should be a Triple Threat match at Extreme Rules between Rollins, Orton and Reigns.

Both Orton and Reigns have arguments that they deserve to be in the championship match at the next PPV, and with the first event after WrestleMania needing a marquee main event to begin the new year, this has the star power to be worthy of the stage.

How the world title scene shakes out over the next month will be intriguing.

Daniel Bryan’s First Intercontinental Championship Defense

Daniel Bryan is one of the biggest stars in wrestling today, and who he stands toe-to-toe against in his first defense of the Intercontinental Championship will be a good gauge of how well his title reign will be booked.

Bryan had a storyline with Dolph Ziggler brewing, and now a returning heel Sheamus has joined the storyline. Add the fact that Bad News Barrett has a rematch clause, and the Extreme Rules match is almost guaranteed to be a Fatal 4-Way.

As seen from the IC title match at WrestleMania, a multiman match can be good, but it takes away from the storyline. The hope is that WWE begins to plant the seeds for two separate singles storylines from this bout.

Bryan should successfully retain while Sheamus and Ziggler begin a long-term storyline. Bad News Barrett can move on to something else, and Bryan can begin a program with Dean Ambrose after he cements the potential heel turn.

Bryan vs. Ambrose and Ziggler vs. Sheamus? Yes, please.

Rusev vs. John Cena

Rusev earned the victory at WWE Fastlane, and John Cena got it back by winning the United States Championship at WrestleMania, so now it all comes down to the rubber match at Extreme Rules.

Rusev must walk out of April’s PPV victorious.

Whether it’s via interference from Lana, a run-in from a frustrated Sheamus or a clean pin from Rusev, Cena must take the loss at the PPV and in the feud in order to keep the Russian sympathizer as one of the top heels in the company.

Over the coming weeks, if Cena looks strong and takes the advantage into Extreme Rules, the fans will know he is likely taking the loss. Rusev deserves to win the feud, and Cena moving on to a new storyline immediately is the correct booking.
