Seth Rollins Should Defend Title vs. Randy Orton, Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules

Donald WoodApr 6, 2015

When Seth Rollins cashed in the Money in the Bank contract and won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, he cemented his spot as the top heel on the active roster and a cornerstone of the future.

As a follow-up to his first act as the company's champion, Rollins should face off against both Randy Orton and Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules 2015.

Rollins looks like a weasel cashing in the way he did in the main event of the biggest pay-per-view of the year, and it is imperative to make him look strong moving forward. A marquee first feud would do the trick, and squaring off against two of the top stars in the company makes sense.

In the same vein, both Orton and Reigns also need marquee storylines coming out of WrestleMania, and a Triple Threat match for the world title would be enough to make all three wrestlers look like top stars. Both Orton and Reigns have legitimate cases to be in the match, and the three-way battle would be the best usage of all three Superstars.

For Orton, the clean victory over Rollins at WrestleMania should be enough to earn him a spot in the Extreme Rules main event. On the other hand, Reigns stood toe-to-toe with Brock Lesnar and almost walked out of the PPV with the world title. Each man deserves the chance to take on Rollins, and a Triple Threat match is the easiest solution to the congested title scene.

As for the in-ring competition, it's the perfect scenario for all men involved. Rollins and Orton proved they can have show-stealing matches every time they step in the ring, and that should be more than enough to make up for Reigns' shortcomings.

After taking a beating at the hands of Lesnar, it will be interesting to see how Reigns responds in a main event where he would have to be on the offensive for a large portion of the match. Luckily, Rollins and Orton would make him look like a star.

Not only can the world champion carry Reigns in the ring, but Orton would also be able to take the pinfall and avoid making Reigns look weak. After Reigns hits Orton with the spear, Rollins can dump him out of the ring and collect the easy pinfall.

Extreme Rules needs a marquee main event, and a Triple Threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship sounds like the perfect way to follow up WrestleMania. Rollins needs to start his reign off hot, and beating two top stars at April's PPV is smart booking.
