Bruce Bochy, Brian Sabean Agree on New Contracts Through 2019 with Giants

Winning three World Series titles in five years tends to provide plenty of job security.

The San Francisco Giants were quick to lock up manager Bruce Bochy and general manager Brian Sabean for the long term. The team confirmed it agreed to extensions through 2019 with each.

The Giants also announced a string of organizational changes:

This hardly comes as a surprise. It would've been more shocking for the Giants not to sign extensions with Bochy and Sabean with their contracts set to expire in 2016, per Baseball Prospectus. The two have worked out a great partnership, with Sabean providing the talent and Bochy getting the best out of that talent on the field.

"The glory days of the franchise are now," team president and CEO Larry Baer said to The Associated Press before the Giants and Oakland Athletics met in the preseason, per MLB.com's Chad Thornburg. "I think it's important to acknowledge that and pay tribute to the people who have done it, from the general manager's office to the manager's office, to get us where we are now."

Sabean took over in September 1996 and helped the Giants go from 94 losses to 90 wins in 1997. Before 2007, he helped the franchise reach the postseason four times, including a trip to the World Series in 2002. It wasn't until Bochy joined up that San Francisco took the next step.

Few will argue that the Giants have had the most talent over the years, which makes their three World Series rings all the more impressive.

The somewhat volatile nature of San Francisco's year-by-year performance makes it difficult to project how the team will perform in 2015 and beyond. With Sabean and Bochy on board, though, Giants fans likely won't have to wait long before being on the cusp of more success in October.
