Who Got The Better Trade : Raptors Or Bucks?
Every raptors fan must probably know about the tremendous overhaul to the raptors roster. Colangelo has added 9 new guys to the roster and all old faces have left the A.C.C., there are probably two or more new players who might be added.I think most of you have heard about the Marcus Banks - Matt Caroll trade rumors.
Well im not here to talk about that trade but I might add that article if ya'll like this one. So you guys probably know that Delfino has returned to the NBA but not as a Raptor. Yes he has showed no desire to return to the Raptors and for this the raps sent him to Milwaukee in a 4 player deal, which also involved one of my favourite players , Roko Ukic.
Why is he my favourite you say? All ya'll hardcore raptor fans remember the game against the Spurs. Here's the scenario Bosh and Jose both are out with injuries(Yes we won this game with the spurs big three playing). Who would step up in a situation like this? Bargnani, Parker or J.O. ? none of these players but one rookie named Roko Ukic. Yes this guy helped us with his last minute heroics. Here's the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1JxYU6dFw8.
I think I should go back to my article now. So Delfino and Ukic were traded to the bucks for Amir Johnson and Sonny Weems ( Who ?). Now what i want to discuss is who do you think got the better deal?
Lets check out the stats for Delfino and Roko Ukic. Now they aren't the best of stats but just a comparison
Carlos Delfino 2007-2008 stats(before he left for Russia) : 9 PPG, 1.8 APG, 3P% 38.2
Roko Ukic : 4.2 PPG, 2.1 APG, 0.4 SPG in 12 mins
Now for Amir and Weems
Amir Johnson : 3.5 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 1 BPG in 14 mins
Sonny Weems : 1.6 PPG, 0.3 APG in 4.6 mins
Now the raptors have lost 13 PPG to gaining 6 PPG( just stats wise they have a disadvantage of -7 PPG) The Raptors have lost a developing player in Ukic and an inside-outside shooting threat in Delfino. Although they have gained some(very little) rebounding help from Johnson and basially nothing from Weems. Now nobody can predict anything for the upcoming season. You never know Johnson is an up and coming player as well, with a lot of energy and room for improvement. Weems doesnt seem to have a bright future in the NBA(no offense to Sonny).
This is how the current raptors team looks :
Point Guard: Jose Calderon, Jarrett Jack, Quincy Douby, Marcus Banks.
Shooting Guard: Demar DeRozan, Marco Belinelli, Sonny Weems
Small Forward: Hedo Turkoglu, Antoine Wright
Power Forward: Chris Bosh, Reggie Evans, Amir Johnson
Center: Andrea Bargnani, Rasho Nesterovic, Patrick O’Bryant
On the part of Delfino to some extent i think he was right on getting traded as you see the depth raps have at SG and SF, he would barely get any minutes to play. But just imagine Delfino comin behind Demar and Bellinelli or even before them, to provide that one-two punch and the raptors bench depth at SG and SF would be one of the best in the league.
Also Roko Ukic would probably be a reserve as Calderon and Jack would get the chunk of minutes to play. Also I like Jarett a bit more than Ukic(sorry Ukic) because of his experience and scoring ability. Also he was Bosh's roommate as well as teammates back in college, so it will be intresting to see that chemistry.
So in my opinion the bucks got a better deal because they got Delfino who is solid off the bench although he is inconsistent sometimes. Also a young and improving PG in Ukic. Not saying Johnson is a bad player just that he might not even get much minutes to play but if he does prove himself then kudos to Colangelo. Weems might not even get any playing time next season , and I have heard rumors of him being released.
Well this is my opinion what do yall think? Let me know and guys if yall did not like my article let me know what i should change. First timer have mercy.
