Kentucky Wildcats Highlight Final Four March Madness Trends Roundup

OddsShark.comMar 31, 2015

While the unbeaten Kentucky Wildcats remain on course for a perfect season heading into the Final Four this weekend, they will face a team that had not been underdogs all season before the West Regional Final in the Wisconsin Badgers.

The top-seeded Wildcats won the Midwest Region but went just 1-3 against the spread after closing out the regular season on an 8-1-1 run versus the number, and they have been favored on the college basketball odds in every one of their 38 games.

Then again, the top-seeded Badgers were favored in winning 34 of their first 37 games before coming through as 1.5-point underdogs in an 85-78 win over the second-seeded Arizona Wildcats in the Elite Eight.

Dating back to 2013, Wisconsin is now 7-3 straight-up and 7-2-1 against the spread in its last 10 games as an underdog.

Kentucky is still the overwhelming favorite on the odds to win the NCAA tournament, and betting trends certainly point to the school at least getting the opportunity to play for its ninth national championship Monday.

The Wildcats are 23-3 SU in their past 26 games as favorites at the Big Dance and have won eight of their previous 10 in the Final Four, including the NCAA title game.

However, they are just 1-4 ATS in their past five as favorites in the tournament, which includes last year’s 60-54 loss to the Connecticut Huskies in the national championship game as 2.5-point chalk.

In the other Final Four matchup, bettors may like the Michigan State Spartans, who captured the East Region by avoiding the top-seeded Villanova Wildcats and are trying to follow UConn as the second consecutive No. 7 seed to win the national title.

However, beware Michigan State as a longshot pick to win the championship based on its current underdog status against the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils out of the South Region.

The Spartans are 3-13 SU in their last 16 games as dogs while the Blue Devils are 14-1 in their previous 15 games as favorites. Duke has also won eight of the past nine meetings with Michigan State, although the Spartans are 5-3-1 ATS in those games.
