Final Four 2015: Early Championship Odds for All Remaining Teams

Rob GoldbergMar 30, 2015

Four teams remain in the NCAA tournament, and each of them believes it has what it takes to win a championship.

The Final Four not only features great players, but also some of the best coaches in the sport. ESPN's Jeff Borzello breaks down the squads headed to Indianapolis:

These men get their players to compete as a team to ensure the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This is certain to create an interesting final three games of the college basketball year.

Here is a breakdown of each team in the hunt as well as odds to bring home a national title, courtesy of Vegas Insider.

Kentucky (5-6)

Since the start of the season, Kentucky has been known as the most talented team in the nation. The roster is loaded with McDonald's All-Americans and likely future NBA players, and this all has led to a perfect 38-0 record heading into the Final Four.

Notre Dame almost ended the Wildcats' perfect season in the Elite Eight, a game where the Irish played almost flawlessly. Head coach John Calipari gave plenty of respect to his opponent afterward, saying, "We didn’t play very well and Notre Dame, I thought, controlled the whole thing. But we made the plays. We figure out a way to win it," via Rob Dauster of NBC Sports.

It's pretty impressive that a team can beat a great opponent at this level when it doesn't play well.

Kentucky has the depth and defensive ability to win games even when the shots aren't falling. However, the squad is almost untouchable when it plays at its best on both ends of the court.

This is what opponents should fear over the next two rounds, because the Wildcats have the talent and the will to complete their 40-0 season.

Wisconsin (7-2)

LOS ANGELES, CA - MARCH 28: Josh Gasser #21, Nigel Hayes #10, Bronson Koenig #24, Sam Dekker #15 and Frank Kaminsky #44 of the Wisconsin Badgers huddle while taking on the Arizona Wildcats during the West Regional Final of the 2015 NCAA Men's Basketball

While Kentucky excels because of its defense, Wisconsin has an offense that is almost impossible to stop. The frontcourt combo of Frank Kaminsky, Sam Dekker and Nigel Hayes can all score in the post as well as step outside to hit threes.

This makes the group extremely difficult to defend, even for a squad with as much size as Kentucky.

Despite facing some tough defenses in the NCAA tournament, Wisconsin has remained incredibly efficient so far, via ESPN's John Gasaway:

The Badgers returned most of their roster from last year's Final Four team, which lost in the national semifinals to Kentucky by one point. Since then, the goal has been to avenge that loss and bring home a national title.

Wisconsin will get that chance and will give Kentucky everything it can handle.

Duke (7-2)

Throughout the year, Duke was a dominant team thanks to All-American center Jahlil Okafor and an elite backcourt in Tyus Jones and Quinn Cook. However, the squad has been even better in the tournament thanks to the recent play of freshman Justise Winslow.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports broke down the forward's impact on the team:

Winslow is playing excellent defense and filling up the box score every game. Even when he's not scoring, his ability to grab a rebound and create a fast break makes the offense much more dangerous.

Add this to an already impressive lineup that matches up well against anyone in the nation, and the Blue Devils are a serious threat to take home a national title.

Duke doesn't have a lot of depth with just eight scholarship players. Against Gonzaga in the Elite Eight, the squad had zero bench points. However, the starters can do enough to win another two games in this tournament.

Michigan State (7-1)

SYRACUSE, NY - MARCH 29: Bryn Forbes #5 of the Michigan State Spartans reacts to a three pointer in the second half of the game against the Louisville Cardinals during the East Regional Final of the 2015 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Carrier Dome o

Based on talent alone, Michigan State seems overmatched in this group. There are certainly quality players in Travis Trice, Branden Dawson and Denzel Valentine, but the roster isn't loaded with NBA lottery picks like the other teams.

However, head coach Tom Izzo has gotten the players to become one of the top teams in the nation.

The Spartans play great defense that features quality rotations and teamwork. On offense, they pass the ball well to always get an open look, ranking seventh in the nation in assists per field goal, according to KenPom.com.

In the Elite Eight win over Louisville, Michigan State finished with 20 assists on 26 made baskets.

This ability to move the ball will help against the great defenses remaining in the tournament. Winning the battle on the boards and avoiding mistakes will also help.

As a No. 7 seed, the Spartans are clearly the underdog heading into the final weekend. However, it would be a mistake to bet against an Izzo team in March.
