Geno Smith, Alabama Safety, Arrested: Latest Details, Comments, More
Safety Geno Smith is expected to take on a bigger role in the Alabama defense this season, but the senior defensive back may not get that chance after getting arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, the Atlanta native was stopped early Saturday morning in Tuscaloosa, Alabama:
To make matters worse for Smith, this marks his second DUI arrest in less than two years, per Marq Burnett of The Anniston Star:
Smith is set to enter his senior season and was slated to be a starter for the Crimson Tide. He made big strides last season in expanded playing time and especially stood out in an Iron Bowl victory over Auburn with 10 tackles.
Although hopes were high for Smith in 2015, his Alabama football career could be in jeopardy after another run-in with the law.
Smith certainly has a right to defend himself against the charge, and one can only assume that head coach Nick Saban will be a very interested observer.
