Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has signed a one-year contract extension with the club that will see him remain in the French capital until the summer of 2019.

PSG released a statement on the club's official website, revealing the news of Marquinhos' extension, where the centre-back is quoted as saying:
"It's great, very good news. It shows that I'm doing a good job. I'm very happy that the Club is showing such confidence in me. It's a new stage of my life. The project here in Paris is magnificent and life in Paris is wonderful! I'm very happy with everything that's happened in my life since signing here. Paris Saint-Germain has provided so much for me. I hope it continues for a long time to come.
"
Marquinhos arrived in Paris from Roma almost two years ago as one of European football's highest-rated prospects, but the presence of more established stars has made his status uncertain at times.
PSG go on to quote president Nasser Al Khelaifi as voicing his view on the extension, which would put to bed any notion of the South American starlet leaving the club's shores any time soon:
"Marquinhos represents the future of our club and this extension shows how strongly attached he is to Paris Saint-Germain. We are very happy to extend our adventure with this young and talented player, and it shows how committed the Club is to conserving our best young talents. The biggest European clubs were interested in signing Marquinhos, so this contract extension further reinforces Paris Saint-Germain’s ambitious long-term project.
"
Marquinhos is emerging as a potential staple for the Brazil national team, and he claimed a domestic treble in his first season with PSG, winning the Ligue 1 title, the Trophee des Champions and the Coupe de la Ligue.
Still just 20 years of age, Marquinhos will continue to duel with countrymen Thiago Silva and David Luiz for playing time in the knowledge that his long-term placement at PSG is now more secure.
