Liverpool Transfer News: Raheem Sterling Exit Rumours, Andriy Yarmolenko Eyed

Rory MarsdenMar 23, 2015

Liverpool look set for a fierce battle in the summer if they are to keep hold of Raheem Sterling, as the youngster is being eyed by numerous top European clubs.

The latest interest is reportedly coming from Bayern Munich, with the Daily Star's Jamie Anderson suggesting that the Bundesliga champions' boss, Pep Guardiola, is a big admirer of the 20-year-old Englishman.

Sterling has been stalling on extending his current contract, with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers admitting recently that the issue would not be resolved until the summer, per the Daily Mail's Dominic King:

Sterling's current contract at Liverpool runs until 2017, but Bayern have more than enough resources to turn the forward's head with a bumper deal.

The same is also true of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City, with all three clubs linked with a move for Sterling and capable of significantly beating Liverpool's mooted offer of a new deal worth £90,000 a week, per the Mirror's David Maddock.

Liverpool were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United on Sunday at Anfield, denting their ambitions of playing Champions League football next season.

This could prove key in keeping Sterling for the long term. As one of the Premier League's top prospects, he is surely eager to compete in Europe's top club competition.

A second Bundesliga club, Borussia Dortmund, are also reportedly interested in Sterling, per Bild (h/t Metro's Lewis Rudd).

Liverpool will struggle to hold on to Sterling if all reported suitors are indeed interested, but he would be a big loss for the Reds considering his immense attacking talent and long-term potential.

Sterling is likely to cost upward of £50 million, money that could be used to bring in adequate replacements. But even if he doesn't move on, the Reds are surely set to be active in the summer transfer window.

One reported target is Andriy Yarmolenko, per the Daily Star's Steve MillarDynamo Kiev's 25-year-old attacking midfielder who played a key role in dumping Everton out of the Europa League, per Squawka:

Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a £19.5 million move for Yarmolenko to add to their attacking unit as they bid to move back into contention for the Premier League title.

The Ukrainian would be a fine signing whether Sterling stays or goes, but Liverpool also need to add depth in defence if they are to become legitimate title contenders.

Although the Reds' back line has improved since Rodgers switched to a three-man defence, further additions do still need to be made over the summer.
