DeMarcus Cousins Injury: Updates on Kings Star's Foot and Return

Joseph ZuckerApr 7, 2015

Sacramento Kings star DeMarcus Cousins has been limited by a few different injuries throughout the 2014-15 season, and the injury bug bit him again April 7, when it was announced that he would miss the team's game with the Minnesota Timberwolves with foot soreness. He has been shut down for the remainder of the season.

Cousins Shut Down For Remainder of Season

Saturday, April 11

The Kings announced that Cousins has been shut down the final three games of the season:

"

An examination by Dr. Richard Ferkel in Los Angeles revealed that Cousins has sustained multiple lower leg injuries over the course of the season, including ankle sprains and a calf strain – injuries sustained during a particularly heavy volume of basketball activity dating back to the summer.

He is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for training camp.

"

Cousins has continued to be one of the best big men in the NBA. Although most of his numbers are down just slightly from last year, the 24-year-old is still a double-double machine.

While the season has been a personal success for Cousins, it's only provided more disappointment in terms of team performance.

The Kings have long since left the playoff discussion. There was a bit of excitement in Sacramento earlier in the year. Then, Cousins got viral meningitis, the team fired Mike Malone and the wheels fell off shortly thereafter.

Cousins' most recent injury won't have much of an impact on the squad since the Malone firing pretty much put the franchise in a holding pattern until the 2015-16 season. However, it's always discouraging to see a player shut down due to a string of injuries.
