Facing Randy Orton Will Keep Seth Rollins in the Main Event Picture

Tom ClarkMar 21, 2015

Seth Rollins is the hardest-working heel in WWE.

Every time he's on TV, he gets heat like no one else, and every time he opens his mouth, he gets over.  With the exception of Brock Lesnar, no one in that company can get the negative reaction that Rollins does, and he's only getting better.

But his main event presence as of late has perhaps not been what many fans believed it could be. As Mr. Money in the Bank, Rollins holds the key to WWE World Heavyweight Championship glory, and as a performer, he has all the tools needed to succeed on a high level.  So why isn't he featured more on the main event scene?

Enter Randy Orton, who will keep the former Shield founder on that scene.

Randy Orton

The Viper is out for blood against Rollins and the rest of The Authority for the vicious assault he suffered at their hands four months ago.  After convincing Triple H's group he was on its side following his recent return, Orton showed his hand on the March 9 edition of Monday Night Raw.  Instead of being part of The Authority's family, Orton is on his own once again.

And now it's time to play the feud.

This is where Orton is at his best: on the offensive against an opponent he can get the drop on whenever he wants.  The Authority will now have to deal with Orton, who is familiar with them and how they work.  Orton will bring all of the experience, knowledge and ring savvy he has to this new rivalry, and it will do nothing but benefit the man standing across the ring from him.

Rollins with The Authority

Rollins is in a great spot now. He can get the rub from The Viper and get back on track for main event status.  It's a place he never should have strayed from.

Elevating Rollins to that point was a relatively easy proposition, especially after he betrayed Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose.  The Shield had never been hotter when Rollins decided to join forces with Triple H, and he subsequently got over to the moon as a heel.  Working alongside The Game immediately put him in a whole new light.

Instantly, perception of Rollins changed. He was no longer one of three but an individual force to be reckoned with.  He had the full support of The Authority behind him.

The briefcase he's been toting around is nothing but affirmation of his spot on the roster and validation from WWE that there are surely big things in his future.  The notion that he is the star of tomorrow has been promoted heavily on TV, and all signs point to that being a fact.

And of the former Shield faction, Rollins is the one who seems to have embraced that role with more gusto than anyone imagined possible.

In fact, it suits him perfectly.  He is good in the ring, he's fundamentally sound, and he possesses great psychology that makes his a can't-miss match.  When Rollins is on the card, fans know they're in for a top-notch contest every time.

The fact that it's so incredibly easy to hate his character is just a bonus for Rollins.  All he really has to do is show up, and he's over.

Now, Rollins is stepping up to take on Orton at WWE's biggest event of the year, WrestleMania.  It's a night when legends are born and top stars are made.  It's a fitting environment for Rollins. The world will be watching and waiting for him to impress on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

And working against one of the company's top guys is the best way to do it.

Orton himself has been in this spot before, and it took the help of veterans like Triple H and Ric Flair to help get him where he needed to be.  Now, he has the chance to help someone else, to give back and prove he is all about business.

Rollins is perhaps the best case of being the right heel at the right time, as no one else has been positioned in such a way to succeed against WWE's best and brightest.  This is his chance to seize the moment and make the absolute best of it.  Like Orton, Rollins has had The Game as his mentor, and Rollins can now have knowledge bestowed on him by the very guy Triple H hand-picked back during Evolution's heyday.

The only way to get better and to climb the ladder is to work guys that are better and higher than you are.  Orton has been a featured main event attraction for quite some time in WWE, and he will now lend his star power to Rollins, who has proven he can more than handle the responsibility.  WWE needs its next generation to be ready, and the next step for Rollins could be at WrestleMania 31.

Rollins will be ready.  With Orton's popularity at such a fever pitch, anything he touches should turn to gold in a heartbeat.  Sharing the same ring with Orton will establish Rollins as the true main event threat he is meant to be and the future champion that so many fans believe he will become.
