Moore, Jets to Meet Thursday
Wednesday, March 18
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Jets plan to host Moore on Thursday for a visit:
Moore, 26, made 12 receptions for 115 yards last season, setting career lows in both categories. A starter for 35 games in his first three seasons, Moore was a backup for all but two of his 10 appearances last season. James Jones and Andre Holmes took over starting roles while Moore stewed on the bench. A source told ESPN.com's Bill Williamson that there is "not a chance" Moore returns in free agency.
The Jets are looking for a downfield target to pair with their current assortment of possession-first receivers. Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall are big, talented red-zone targets, but neither stretch the field with their speed. Moore at his best is a downfield burner who accumulated 17 touchdowns in his first three seasons and averages more than 15 yards per catch for his career.
Given his struggles in 2014, it's also likely Moore will come on the cheap as part of a one-year, "prove it" type deal. With the Jets already paying Marshall and Decker large salaries, this might be a smart buy-low option.
