Adam WellsMar 18, 2015

The Baltimore Ravens didn't waste any time taking action against running back Bernard Pierce. The 24-year-old has been released after three seasons, the team announced Wednesday on Twitter:

Prior to Pierce's release, Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun reported the running back was arrested for driving under the influence Wednesday morning:

CBS Baltimore provided Pierce's mugshot:

Per Jessica Anderson of The Baltimore Sun, citing the charging documents, Pierce asked the arresting officer, "Do you know what happened the last time a Ravens player got a DUI? I'm getting cut tomorrow, not like you care."

Per Ryan Mink of the team's website, citing a Ravens spokesman, the front office was "aware of the situation and learning more about it" before making any final decisions.

This isn't the first time Baltimore has taken swift action against players who have been arrested. Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com noted that Terrence Cody and Victor Hampton were released following separate incidents after the team's season ended.

Pierce's career in Baltimore fell off a cliff after a stellar debut season. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry as a rookie in 2012, playing an instrumental role in the Ravens' run to the Super Bowl, but averaged just 3.4 yards per carry over the past two seasons.
