Kenrick Ellis to Giants: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Timothy RappMar 18, 2015

Defensive lineman Kenrick Ellis will be playing football in New York next season. He won't be playing for the New York Jets any longer, however, as he signed a deal Wednesday with the New York Giants.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com has the report:

The Giants' official Twitter account later confirmed the news.

The NFL Network's Albert Breer provided the details of the deal:

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York has more on Ellis' decision to swap Big Apple teams:

The defensive lineman appeared in 14 games for the Jets last season, accumulating 12 tackles and a sack. In his four-year career, all with the Jets, the 27-year-old has notched 53 tackles and a sack.

A third-round pick (94th overall) in the 2011 NFL draft, Ellis was never able to make himself a vital part of the Jets' defensive line and likely would have been buried on the team's depth chart again in 2015. As Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News noted, he'll be leaving the team with expectations unmet:

ESPN's Dan Graziano noted that Ellis was a top prospect who could be a solid signing.

The Giants will be hoping a change of scheme and a change of scenery—well, a slight change of scenery— will help get the most out of Ellis' abilities. He should have the chance to compete for a significant role on the team's defensive line.

He didn't have to move very far to get it.
