Stephen Curry Injury: Updates on Warriors Star's Head Contusion and Return

Point guard Stephen Curry has been brilliant all season for the Golden State Warriors. The one thing Golden State cannot afford is an injury to its MVP.

Unfortunately, that's what happened Monday night. Curry took a nasty spill to the floor, suffering a head contusion and elbow injury. Curry did return in the third quarter, but the Rockets eventually won, 128-115.

Curry to Wear Protective Sleeve in Game 5

ESPN's J.A. Adande reported Curry will wear a sleeve in Game 5 to protect the arm he landed on during the fall. Adande relayed Curry's comments on the sleeve.

"It's just the impact of the fall," Curry said. "My whole right side took the brunt of that force, and my head. It's basically like a bruise all the way up and down your body that you've just got to deal with."

Curry Passed Concussion Test Twice

Curry not only had to pass the concussion test once, but twice before coming back into Monday's game against the Rockets, according to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News:

In fact, according to Warriors general manager Bob Myers, the team doctors made Curry duplicate the concussion protocols to be doubly sure.

After that, Curry went into the hallway and ran back and forth a few times, which is not on any concussion protocol, but was common careful sense after such a scary fall.

The team was being extra cautious, and Curry wasn’t pushing anything—they all agreed he was OK to go back in. Curry’s father was in the area. Co-owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber were there, too.

On May 25, Warriors G.M. Bob Myers made it clear Curry did not suffer a concussion, per Ethan Strauss of ESPN.com: "If he did, he wouldn't have played. That's pretty hard line."

Curry took a hard fall in the second quarter of Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Houston Rockets:

He was diagnosed with a head contusion and was questionable to return, per Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle.

With 5:58 remaining in the third quarter and the Rockets leading 81-69, Curry returned to the floor, per Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group.

He would go on to play 31 minutes, scoring 23 points on 7-of-18 shooting, while dishing out four assists. Steve Kerr briefly commented on the injury after the game, via CBS Sports: “Our doctors cleared him and he’s doing fine.”

Curry was upbeat about the injury after the game, per Adam Wexler of KPRC-TV in Houston:

Curry, 27, has become one of the NBA's most dangerous players. The two-time All-Star was already a top player coming into this season, but he's taken his game to the next level, and Golden State has become the NBA's most feared squad behind the league MVP.

Few players in the league, if any, have been better than him this year. Few are more valuable to their teams. While the Warriors have an excellent squad and a strong supporting cast that includes Klay Thompson, Andrew Bogut, Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green, among others, Curry is the key component.
