Former Chelsea Ace Salomon Kalou Facing Fine for 'Vandalising Berlin Wall'

Former Chelsea star Salomon Kalou could be out of pocket after reportedly taking a chunk out of the Berlin Wall.
According to reports in Germany, the Ivory Coast international is facing a hefty €10,000 fine for doing the act on national television.

Kalou, who now plays for Hertha Berlin, was filmed hitting on the wall with a hammer and chisel to signify how he hoped to break down Schalke's defence in a big Bundesliga game.
A major no-no in the German capital, it would appear.
The complaint was made by Kani Alavi, the chairman of the Eastside Gallery, who told the Berliner Kurier newspaper, as per James Whaling of the Daily Mirror:
"Here we have a well-paid celebrity increasing his market value at the expense of a national monument. Without respect. And with the clear backing of television.
Just because there is no security patrolling the Gallery, doesn't mean you can go around doing what you want.
If he had done that at the Brandenburg Gate, the player would probably have been arrested.
"
Tom Sheen of The Independent explained why Kalou is in trouble for his actions:
"The Wall is a protected monument dating back to the fall of the German Democratic Party (GDR) in 1991 - anyone found vandalising the landmark faces a hefty fine of up to €10,000. The Berlin Wall divided the city between 1961 and 1989.
"
Hertha did break down Schalke's "wall" twice in a 2-2 draw, but Kalou did not manage to get on the scoresheet.
