Shelley Smith to Broncos: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

The Denver Broncos bolstered the interior of their offensive line on Friday, agreeing to a two-year deal with Shelley Smith, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Broncos also confirmed their capture.

With Orlando Franklin going to the San Diego Chargers, there was an obvious hole on the left side of Denver's line. Mike Klis of The Denver Post doesn't see Smith as a direct replacement for Franklin but thinks the Broncos' newest acquisition will fight for the starting job:

The Houston Texans drafted Smith in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft. Michelle Tuckner of Fox 31 in Denver noted that this is the second time Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak has added Smith to one of his teams:

Over four years, Smith has spent time with the Texans, St. Louis Rams and Miami Dolphins, making 13 starts and 40 appearances.

Although the 27-year-old wasn't the most in-demand offensive guard on the market, he'll at least arrive in Denver with some starting experience under his belt.

However, he or Garland will have big shoes to fill after Franklin established himself as an anchor of the O-line in Denver.
