Johnson to Reportedly Sign with Chargers

Tuesday, March 17

Dianna Marie Russini of NBC 4 in Washington, D.C., reported that Johnson would sign with the Chargers. Russini noted that Johnson made the decision based on what was best for his family.

On March 16, Russini reported that Johnson left his visit with New England without signing a deal. She  added:

However, Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego reported on March 16 that a late financial push from the Patriots complicated the wideout's decision and noted that one hadn't been made yet.

Gehlken tweeted on March 13 that Johnson visited the Chargers on Friday and planned to decide where he'd sign in the coming days.

49ers and Browns Interested in Johnson

Thursday, March 12

Pro Football Talk reported Thursday that Johnson may still return to the San Francisco 49ers despite the fact that the team released him earlier in the day. Johnson caught 35 passes for 435 yards and three touchdowns in his one season with the team (2014) but could provide some much-needed depth at the position if he indeed returns.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports noted Thursday that the Cleveland Browns also have their eyes on the receiver:

Cleveland will be without Josh Gordon for the season and could certainly use another option at the receiver position. Johnson may not have put up eye-popping numbers last year, but he topped the 1,000-yard mark in three consecutive seasons from 2010 to 2012 and has proved himself at the NFL level.
