2015 NFL Free Agency: Best Twitter Talk About Latest Rumors

Katie RichcreekMar 11, 2015

The first couple of days of 2015 NFL free agency have been nothing short of entertaining.

Ndamukong Suh found his new home (and a fat paycheck) with the Miami Dolphins, the Jacksonville Jaguars sealed a big deal with Julius Thomas, and the San Francisco 49ers reunited Torrey Smith with Anquan Boldin.

However, the fate of other top free agents remains in limbo.

DeMarco Murray and the Philadelphia Eagles continue to flirt, while the Dallas Cowboys "lurk" C.J. Spiller as a potential replacement and the New York Jets shop another cornerback, Antonio Cromartie.

And Twitter brings the best of the news.

DeMarco Murray

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is confident the Eagles are serious in their pursuit for the Dallas Cowboys star running back.

"

To ask a question and then answer it myself: Are the #Eagles in it for DeMarco Murray? Yes. it is very real.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 11, 2015"

And that confidence seems to be warranted. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Tuesday that Murray personally reached out to Chip Kelly.

"

DeMarco Murray renewed Eagles' interest w personal call to Chip Kelly; not just spread offense ran at Oklahoma; Sam Bradford's roommate, too

— Chris Mortensen (@mortreport) March 11, 2015"

According to Rapoport's NFL Network colleague Albert Breer, there have also been personal conversations between the former college roommates.

"

Sam Bradford says he's been calling and texting DeMarco Murray trying to get him to come to Philly with him.

— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) March 11, 2015"

Murray, as you may recall, was the league's leading rusher in the 2014 regular season—besting the second leading rusher, Le'Veon Bell, by nearly 500 yards.

This would be a huge pickup, for any team. And if Dallas isn't willing to raise its price, it very well may find itself without a key offensive weapon in the fall.

Either way, the Twitterverse has been saturated with talk of the rumor.

Eagles defensive back Malcolm Jenkins has been among the vocal.

"

I don't like the cowboys but I do like @DeMarcoMurray .... Come on over to the dark side bro! We'll treat you good!

— Malcolm Jenkins (@MalcolmJenkins) March 10, 2015"

Dez Bryant? Eh, not so keen on the idea.

"

Go there if you want and watch what happens lol RT @MalcolmJenkins: I don't like the cowboys but I do like @DeMarcoMurray ....

— Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) March 10, 2015"

C.J. Spiller

For the Star-Telegram's Cowboys beat writer Clarence Hill, Spiller wouldn't be full compensation for a Murray loss.

"

CJ spiller would not be an every down replacement for Murray. So stop that drama. Strictly change of pace, third down. Cows want physical RB

— Clarence Hill (@clarencehilljr) March 10, 2015"

But according to Rapoport, Dallas isn't the only team interested.

"

With some newfound cap space, I’m told the #Saints are now in the mix for former #Bills RB CJ Spiller. Meanwhile, the #Cowboys lurk as well

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 11, 2015"

Could the New Orleans Saints use Spiller?

Mark Ingram continues to be the team's primary workhorse.

However, it couldn't hurt to add some depth with a player like Spiller. Especially considering the Saints just traded off their No. 1 receiver. It could very well be a whole new scheme in 2015.

Antonio Cromartie

GLENDALE, AZ - OCTOBER 26: Cornerback Antonio Cromartie #31 of the Arizona Cardinals runs the football after making an interception against the Philadelphia Eagles in the first half at University of Phoenix Stadium on October 26, 2014 in Glendale, Arizon

The New York Jets have already beefed up their secondary with the acquisition of Darrelle Revis, but that might just be the first of two pieces.

Rumors have been flying regarding talks between Cromartie and the Jets, and according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, those rumors are taking shape.

"

The #Jets believe they are going to land cornerback Antonio Cromartie. Working out final details, but it's going to get done.

— Charles Robinson (@CharlesRobinson) March 11, 2015"

Revis has had a hand in recruiting his former teammate, per Rapoport.

"

The #Jets are the clear leader for the services of Antonio Cromartie, and the expectation is he signs there. Revis the recruiter.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 11, 2015"

Cromartie and Revis played together with the Jets from 2010 to 2012, when the team consistently ranked among the league's top 10 defenses, per NFL.com.

Thad Brown from WROC-TV in Rochester, New York, summed up this potential deal well.

"

#Jets seemed poised to land CB Antonio Cromartie today. Their CB situation maybe goes from 32nd to 1st in 24 hours.
