Tuesday, March 24

Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reported that Olivera signed a six-year, $62.5 million deal with the Dodgers, that featured a $28 million signing bonus.ย

Padres, Dodgers Reportedly Actively Involved in Olivera Persuit

Monday, March 23

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported that San Diego and Los Angeles are both chasing Olivera:

"

There are said to be other teams in the running , as well, as the hard-hitting Olivera could be that rare star ready to join a team on the cusp of the season and make an immediate impact. However, a bidding competition between Los Angeles and its less-rich rival 90 miles to the south, San Diego, also seems possible at this point.

Agent Greg Genske said Monday that โ€œseveralโ€ teams are still in the mix but still foresaw a deal happening โ€œsoon.โ€

"

Joel Sherman of the New York Post added there is a "strong sense Olivera is NL West fight between #Dodgers #Padres. Likely finalized by Wed. Likely 5- or 6-yr deal."

On March 12, Clark Spencer of theย Miami Heraldย reported on Olivera's offers from the Dodgers and Padres, among others.

On March 10,ย Jeff Passanย of Yahoo Sports reported then that the Padres were the favorites to sign Olivera.

Marlins No Longer Bidding on Olivera

Sunday, March 22

"The Marlins are no longer in bidding for Hector Olivera," Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reported. Spencer offered some additional insight:

On March 11,ย Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reported Olivera was considering several long-term offers, including from Miami.

Spencer first reported on March 10 that the Marlins were interested in Olivera.ย ย

Braves Offering Four-Year Deal

Wednesday, March 18

Heymanย reported the Braves are offering Olivera a four-year contract, while other teams have put five years on the table:

"

ย Theย Bravesย have offered a four-year deal to star Cuban free agent Hector Olivera, but at least theย Padres,ย Giantsย and bigger-spendingย Dodgersย are in the mix and multiple teams are thought to be offering five years. The A's andย Marlinsย also have been connected to Olivera, though it isn't known how involved those teams are.

"

On March 13, Sanchez reported that the Braves would meet with Olivera's agent.

Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reported on March 10 the Braves had made a contract offer to Olivera.

The Braves are in an interesting spot right now. They have undergone drastic change this offseason, trading Jason Heyward and Justin Upton while acquiring long-term assets. This signals a franchise rebuild.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported on March 7 that the infielder's agents areย expecting a huge contract.

Ben Badler ofย BaseballAmerica.comย offered a list of suitors for Olivera, which includes the Braves, San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Oliveraย Reportedly Has Multiple Long-Term Offers, Teams Will Want Elbow Exam

Saturday, March 14

Rosenthal reported comments from Olivera's agent, who stated that the Cuban has multiple long-term offers. Rosenthal also reported that although Olivera's elbow is fine, teams are concerned it could be an issue, and heย noted that they would want him to undergo an exam to make sure everything is OK before signing any deal.ย

On March 11, Sanchez reported Olivera is weighing several long-term offers:

"

Cuban second baseman Hector Olivera is considering several offers in the four- to six-year range, and the infielder could come to terms with a team this week, according to industry sources.

The Dodgers, Braves, Marlins, Padres, A's and Giants have all shown a strong interest in signing the 29-year-old, sources said.
