Butler has played the last three seasons in Indianapolis, appearing in 41 games and making 15 starts. Stephen Holder of The Indianapolis Star feels that during that time, Butler established himself as a key cog in the Colts defense:

Keeping Butler around is a great move for Indianapolis. Finding another nickel cornerback would've been difficult and costly in the event he slipped through the team's grasp. Plus, the trio of Butler, Vontae Davis and Greg Toler has become one of the key units for the reigning AFC South champions.
Last year, the Colts finished with the 10th-best pass defense in the league, per Football Outsiders. With Butler staying put, the unit should continue taking steps forward in 2015.
