Handful Of Interested Teams

Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports there are at least four teams other than the Falcons looking into the possibility of signing the 27-year-old pending free agent:
"QB T.J. Yates getting interest from four teams outside of the Falcons. We'll see what happens with him.

Quite frankly, it's hard to believe that many organizations would be interested in Yates. More than anything else, it speaks to the lack of quality options at the league's most important position.
In 14 career games—five starts—he's accumulated a 70.3 quarterback rating with seven interceptions and just three touchdown passes. He only attempted four passes while playing behind Matt Ryan last season and threw a pick on one of them.
It's hard to consider him anything more than a mediocre backup at this point. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL draft by the Houston Texans. Nothing he's done since that point suggests he's prepared to lock down a starting role.
Perhaps one of the interested teams thinks he possesses more upside than he's shown so far. It's a long shot, though.
