Anthony Spencer to Saints: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
After missing all but one game in the 2013 season, defensive end Anthony Spencer wasn't able to make a major impact for the Dallas Cowboys in 2014. Nevertheless, the New Orleans Saints were interested in the 31-year-old, signing him to a one-year contract on Friday, per the team's website.
After never quite living up to expectations for much of his career, Spencer had a career year in 2012, recording 95 tackles, 11 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three pass deflections while also making the Pro Bowl.
The Cowboys were expecting big things from him in 2013, slapping the franchise tag on him for a second consecutive season, but he played just one game due to needing microfracture surgery on his knee.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈

Spencer signed a one-year deal with the team last year but never seemed to fully recover from the procedure, finishing with just 27 tackles, 0.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown in 13 games.
For his career, Spencer has 390 tackles, 33 sacks and 14 forced fumbles in eight seasons.
Signing Spencer is essentially hoping he can discover anything close to his 2012 form. Perhaps an entire season removed from having microfracture surgery will allow him to bounce back.
Still, at his age, it's hard to imagine Spencer's best football is in front of him. He could certainly prove to be a great bargain for New Orleans in 2015, though expecting anywhere near double-digit sacks is probably folly.
