Mourinho States Matic Is Fit to Play
Tuesday, March 10
"Jose reports Nemanja Matic is fit to play and he is happy to have him back though he warns he hasn't played for a couple of weeks," the club announced.
On March 5, it was revealed that Matic sat out the Capital One Cup final against Spurs but joined his team-mates in full kit during the post-match celebrations. As shared by Bleacher Report UK, he injured his ankle in the process:
Had he not been suspended, he woudn't have been fit to face West Ham United in the Premier League a few days later anyway. But via The Daily Telegraph's Henry Winter, Mourinho is certain Matic will be ready for the Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday:
Matic changed into his club kit to celebrate with his team-mates after the win over Spurs and twisted his ankle in the confusion. But as reported by The Independent's Miguel Delaney, judging by Mourinho's recollection of the incident, the injury isn't all that serious:
Matic remains Chelsea's top enforcer in midfield, and during his absence, the Blues failed to assert their regular dominance in the centre of the pitch, struggling to contain the opponent's more physical players.
It would be an embarrassing story should the Serbia international miss an all-important match against the French champions because he celebrated a little too hard, but fortunately, it appears the Blues may have dodged a massive bullet.
