Minor Resumes Throwing, Experiencing Discomfort

Sunday, April 12

Kevin McAlpin of Braves Radio Network noted that Minor has experienced some discomfort in his shoulder since resuming throwing off the mound. President of baseball operations John Hart said, "He has experienced some discomfort as he's begun to stretch himself out," per McAlpin.

Hart also added that exploratory surgery is possible. But he stated, "We're not there yet. Not by any stretch of the imagination, we're not there yet. If this thing continues [the discomfort] that's certainly an option."

On March 23, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reported that Minor was set to begin his throwing program, and there was hope he'd be ready by late April or early May.

McAlpin previously provided a synopsis of Hart discussing Minor's injury on March 10:

On March 4, the Braves announced Minor had been scratched from his first scheduled start of the spring with what they called "tightness in his left shoulder." Bowman noted Minor had trouble with his pitching shoulder last season but that there was no structural damage shown upon further testing.

Minor, 27, went 6-12 last season with a 4.77 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He gave up 20 home runs for the third straight campaign while continuing to show minimal progress toward becoming a foundational piece of Atlanta's rotation. FanGraphs' WAR formula calculated Minor as being worth 0.2 wins in 2014, the lowest number of his career.

Minor started last season on the disabled list after complaining of shoulder soreness and did not make his first start until May 2.
