Cary Williams Released by Eagles: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction
In a cost-cutting move and perhaps as an indictment of one of the league's worst pass defenses last season, the Philadelphia Eagles have cut ties with cornerback Cary Williams.
The team made the move official on Twitter.
As Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports tweeted, the move clears up some cap space for the Birds:

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Williams spoke on the team's decision after the news was announced, via Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com:
He also said he wasn't offered a pay cut to stay in Philadelphia, via Adam Caplan of ESPN.
Williams, who was signed for the team before the 2013 season, finished last year with 60 tackles and two interceptions. But he and fellow starter Bradley Fletcher were much maligned in Philadelphia and considered a major reason why the team finished 31st in pass defense.
And Fletcher is likely the next to go, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com:
For the Eagles, the move means that they are likely to hit free agency hard in an effort to retool the secondary, and perhaps the draft as well. With a number of solid corners on the free-agent market, the team should be able to upgrade the position from a year ago and have the cap space to do so.
Williams, meanwhile, could be heading back to a team he has already played for, via Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun and CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora:
The Baltimore Ravens need to upgrade their secondary as well and could likely get Williams for a reasonable price.
The fit certainly makes sense, though after a tough 2014 season, Williams will have a lot to prove no matter where he ends up next.
