Dynamo Dresden vs. Borussia Dortmund: Team News, Preview, Live Stream, TV Info

Stefan BienkowskiMar 2, 2015

Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to build on their recent upturn in form and victory in Saturday's Ruhr derby on Tuesday night when they travel to Dresden to face Dynamo in the next round of the DFB Pokal cup.

Jurgen Klopp's side have looked like their old selves of late, winning four Bundesliga matches in a row, and they will hope to add Germany's domestic cup to their list of competitions they now look set to challenge for.

Dynamo, in contrast, have offered very little in 2015 with just one win in their last five games in all competitions. That victory may have come on Saturday against Regensburg, but Dortmund are still strong favourites for this tie.

Predicted Lineup

Klopp is likely to treat Tuesday's game with the utmost respect, in the hope of continuing the momentum that has done the club so well of late, and as such he should start a relatively strong team. However, we can expect to see a few changes from Saturday's match.

The most notable will probably be the inclusion of Jakub Blaszczykowski on the right wing, as the Polish international continues to return to form and full fitness. He'll most likely come in for Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the wing, allowing the Armenian international to move inside and push Shinji Kagawa back to the bench.

Elsewhere we should see the return of Sven Bender who will most likely come in for either Ilkay Gundogan or Nuri Sahin in the middle of the park. Like his Polish colleague, Bender has only recently returned to match fitness and will look to Tuesday's game as a perfect match to get back into the starting XI.

Players to watch

Marco Reus

It's an obvious choice but it's also the most logical one to make: Marco Reus is Dortmund's most dangerous player and he leads that contest by quite a margin.

It will come as no surprise that Reus' upturn in form and commitment to the club with his recent contract extension has been at the heart of Dortmund's galvanised upturn in fortunes. If we want to bet on who scores for Dortmund on Tuesday night, it'll be on this man.

Justin Eilers

Dynamo will undoubtedly be up against it versus Dortmund in this knockout tie but in their arsenal is goalscoring winger Justin Eilers.

The 26-year-old left winger has scored no less than 17 goals this season, according to Transfermarkt, and despite playing in the third tier of German football will undoubtedly fancy his chances against the likes of Marcel Schmelzer or Oliver Kirch.

Key Battles

Dennis Erdmann vs. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

In truth Klopp may make the decision to drop Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in favour of giving one of his backup strikers a shot for a change, yet regardless of who plays up front for Dortmund on the night they'll be up against Dennis Erdmann.

The Dynamo central defender has been ever-present in the club's Pokal campaign and is undoubtedly one of the most competent players in their side. When Dortmund come knocking and hoping to score, it'll be Erdmann more than anyone looking to hold them back.

Justin Eilers vs. Marcel Schmelzer

As we've already mentioned, Eilers should prove to be the key danger man for Dynamo against Dortmund and will be hoping to cause as much havoc as he can behind the Black and Yellows defensive line.

Schmelzer, Klopp's favoured left-back, will be tasked with making sure that doesn't happen while also running the lines and offering an attacking option as well. An interesting duel awaits.
