Hampton Arrested for DWI

Sunday, Mar. 1

Baltimore Ravens defensive back Victor Hampton was arrested in Charlotte and charged with driving while being impaired Saturday after police pulled him over for traveling at a high rate of speed.

Hampton, 22, was going 100 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone when police apprehended him, per Alexa Ashwell of WSOCTV.com. Police then asked him to perform a field sobriety test, after which they measured a .10 blood alcohol content, which is above the legal limit of .08.

Hampton was charged with DWI, speeding, open container and reckless driving. Two passengers were also charged with carrying concealed weapons, and the right-front passenger was cited for marijuana possession. Hampton was released on bond shortly after he was booked. Penalties for the DWI charge include potential jail time, a minimum fine of $200 and a license suspension of up to one year.

Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun provided comments from a team spokesperson:

The former South Carolina star spent 2014 with the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants, serving on the former's offseason roster and the latter's practice squad. The Ravens signed Hampton to a reserve-future contract in January.

Under terms of the NFL's substance-abuse policy, Hamilton faces a two-game suspension if convicted of driving under the influence.
