Why Is NBA Unpredictable?

Danny DukkerAug 17, 2009

You've heard it before! "Where Amazing Happens, NBA is Unpredictable etc." Why is that? It gets tiring and many people never hear the answer! Well I'm gonna give it to you!

First of all, the most obvious reason, injuries. Players who have such high expectations for the year and then end up like on a hospital bed watching re-runs of Ali vs. Foreman! There have been so many players affected with this curse!

Let me give you some examples! T-Mac, at one point many considered him an MVP, but what happened, his knee happened! He watched as his teammates fought to win games that with him, would have been easy. He watched and watched and all the while not telling his team he will be gone longer because of the surgery he is about to get!

Grant Hill, dubbed the next MJ! Well, he was for a little while until, guess what happened, he got hurt! The Rookie of the Year has since only been a good sportsman as his awards show. He is the epitomy of a has-been.

Greg Oden, many don't know that he was actually a number 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. The reason thye don't know is because he missed the entire season due to a knee injury! The following season, he was still listed as a rookie but only played 61 games, because of, you guessed it! An injury! This kid has a future!(not)

Now let me move into another major reason the NBA is unpredictable: bad decisions! Again, we all have seen this before! A team making a dumb pick in the draft or making a trade that would no doubt, come back to bite them!

The examples of bad trades include:

Kobe for Vlade Divac: I am not a fan of Kobe and do not enjoy seeing him play for many reasons, but that's a whole other article (hint hint). Anyway I can admit that this trade was extremely one sided and well was just plain dumb! Still it is funny!

Baron Davis for Speedy Calxton: Wow! Just reading this makes you laugh and cry at the same time! I mean neither of these guys are phenomenal, but look at what Davis did in Golden State! Look at what Caxton did! My point exactly!

Shaq for Sasha Pavlovic: There were a couple of other things involved in this trade, but none to tip the scale. This trade is very near and dear to my heart, as I am a Suns fan. I mean, the Suns aren't even getting a young potential star out of this! They are barely even getting a has-been!

Now for bad draft picks:

Kwame Brown-1st pick-2001 NBA draft: Do I even have to make fun of this?! I mean, do I? Let me give you some names that were chosen later in the night: Tony Parker, Joe Johnson, Pau Gasol, Tyson Chandler, Gilbert Arenas, Mehmet Okur etc. That's all I have to say!

Darko Milicic-2nd pick-2003 NBA Draft - Again, I do not have to say anything that could possibly make fun of this anymore it already does for itself! People chosen later include: Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, David West, Mo Williams, Michael Pietrus etc. This again, speaks for itself!

Sam Bowie-2nd pick-1984 NBA Draft - This is the worst! The worst! Not only did the Blazers pass up Michael Jordan (the greatest of all time) they also passed up: Charles Barkley, Alvin Robertson, Kevin Willis, John Stockton, Sam Perkins, etc. They would be the ones!

Last but definately not least come the calls! You remember that game that you saw and your team was up by 20+ and then bam! Fouls got the team and they lose! Know the feeling?? Well I do and it's not fun! It happens every game and even though it's often harmless it often ruins it.

Whatever team you watch I know you have seen these things happen. Whether it be a bad trade, a bad draft choice, injuries, bad calls etc. We all know what it feeks like, it's tough out there for fans. So if you want my advice: Put on your hard hat and go watch that game!
