Wes Brown and John O'Shea both used to play for Manchester United. Both now play for Sunderland, and both are defenders.

But they definitely do not look alike.

That's why it is so inexplicable that referee Roger East sent off Brown for a penalty foul on Radamel Falcao at Old Trafford on Saturday, when it was clearly O'Shea who made the tackle.

The Internet reacted in predictably hilarious fashion.

Mistaken identity at Old Trafford. Wes Brown off instead of O’Shea by mistake. What did the referee see? #TheDress pic.twitter.com/2RDOWyyaNV

Poor Mr. East. At times like these, referees really could do with some help. They might have to wait a while for that, too, though.
