Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times provided comments from Timonen:
Timonen has yet to step on the ice this season after being hospitalized in August with blood clots in his right leg and both lungs.
Earlier on Friday, he spoke about how he's ready to make his return and targeted the Flyers' game against the New York Rangers on Saturday as his potential season debut.
"If they want me to play Saturday, I'm good to go," Timonen said, per ESPN.com. "Every day is better, and I have to start playing games somewhere down the road. If it's Saturday, that's good. If it's not Saturday, then it's next week."
Sarah Baicker of CSNPhilly.com was a bit surprised to see the 39-year-old dealt before he even had a chance to come back for Philadelphia:
Lazerus believes that the Blackhawks are gambling a bit with the trade but feels Timonen's track record speaks for itself:
NHL.com's Dan Rosen added that Timonen doesn't need to rush back to the ice given Chicago's current situation:
The Blackhawks play the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night, and their first game after that is on Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Timonen could potentially make his debut then, but the important thing for Chicago is ensuring he's 100 percent for the playoffs.
