Bold MLB Predictions for Second-Half

Detroit Tigers Acquire Aubrey Huff…

Adam BernacchioAug 17, 2009
At the July 31st trading deadline, the Detroit Tigers added pitching by acquiring Jarrod Washburn from the Seattle Mariners. Now, during the waiver period, the Tigers have decided to add some offense.

The Tigers acquired Aubrey Huff today from the Baltimore Orioles for minor league pitching prospect prospect Brett Jacobson. I like this move for the Tigers, as I have always thought he was one of the more underrated offensive players in the game.

Huff was batting .253 with 13 HRs and 72 RBI for the Orioles this year. The average is a little low for Huff (a .284 career hitter), but he should provide a nice threat in the middle of the order for the Tigers.

The Tigers are 12th in the AL in runs scored since the All-Star break, so this move was needed.

Huff, who can play first and some third, will most likely become the Tigers’ full-time DH. Carlos Guillen is now healthy enough to play the field, so he can play left for the Tigers.

Brett Jacobson was 1-3 with a 3.74 ERA and had six saves in 35 games for Single-A Lakeland.
